Who we are
Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario's electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario's future electricity needs. Our employees play a key role in driving grid innovation, protecting the system from threats, advancing the province's energy conservation programs, and forecasting and procuring the electricity resources we'll need in the decades to come.
This is a non-unionized position that falls within the Corporate Services Business Unit.

In this role, you will be leading the team responsible for developing and implementing ongoing enhancement of the IESO's enterprise risk management and emergency preparedness functions.
During an extraordinary time for Ontario's electricity sector, you'll deliver excellence in risk management practices while providing independent oversight of mitigation effectiveness across all business areas. To ensure the organization responds with resiliency to potential disruption, you will lead enterprise-wide planning and execution of IESO's corporate business continuity program to achieve modernized Business Continuity Management practices.
What you'll do
In this role, you'll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
Risk Management, Insurance and Governance
- Lead the team responsible for the operation of the IESO's objective-centric end-to-end risk management process for strategic and operational risks.
- Ensure that elements of the IESO's Enterprise Risk Management framework continue to incorporate best practices and industry leading guidance
- Evolve organizational value from cross linkages between risk controls, business continuity plans, enterprise business planning and project portfolio prioritization
- Oversee the IESO's commercial insurance portfolio, coordinating placement and loss prevention activities, broker relationships, delivering education workshops and monitoring claims processing
Risk Identification, Assessment and Reporting
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leaders across the organization to identify and mitigate risks
- Facilitate operational and project risk assessments on key strategic initiatives and high visibility initiatives that provide an enhanced level of independent oversight
- Implement innovative and insightful enterprise risk reporting and dashboards to support risk governance and decision making, including development of risk performance metrics (KPIs)
- Support the Board's understanding of risk issues through topical reports that make connections to strategy, business objectives and interdependencies
Business Continuity Management
- Lead all work plans and collaborate with members of Emergency Preparedness Committee and Emergency Response Team and other key stakeholders, to develop and implement plans that anticipate, address, and mitigate the effects of business interruptions
- Serve as Management back-up support to the Chairs of the Emergency Preparedness Committee and Emergency Response Team
- Plan, establish agendas and hold meetings, training exercises and respond to emergencies
Leadership
- Deliver future oriented leadership approach to anticipate changes in an ambiguous and rapidly evolving environment
- Maintain effective customer relationships, and create mechanisms for continuous learning and change to achieve desired results within an evolving business context
- Provide guidance, training and coaching to direct reports
In a typical day, you will lead the organization's enterprise risk management program, working closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to identify, assess, and mitigate strategic and operational risks. The role balances oversight of risk reporting, governance, and business continuity planning, ensuring the organization is prepared for potential disruptions while aligning risk management activities with business objectives and priorities. The Senior Manager also oversees the commercial insurance portfolio, manages broker relationships, supports claims and loss prevention activities, and delivers risk awareness training across the organization. Throughout the day, they provide strategic advice to executives and the Board through insightful risk reporting and dashboards, while coaching and developing their team to foster a proactive, resilient, and forward-looking risk culture.
Right now, this position is a valued and contributing member of two transformational cross functional teams. One team is focused on advancing IESO corporate strategies that will champion cyber security, situational awareness, and risk management practices within the electricity sector. The second, is a team that is implementing leading risk assessment and governance practices for implementing artificial intelligence on an enterprise-wide basis.

To succeed in this role, you'll need:
Required
- University degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Law or related field;
- At least 8 to 10 years of work experience;
- Demonstrated leadership skills to sell ideas, drive process innovation and obtain management buy-in for constructive changes.
- Relevant knowledge of risk and control framework and standards such as COSO 2017, ISO 31000, ISO 27001, COBIT and risk assessment practices to plan and conduct information technology, financial, operational and compliance risk reviews throughout the company.
Nice to have
- Experience and knowledge of the electrical or energy sector structure, business, and regulatory requirements to understand areas of risk management, internal controls to conduct business and technical studies and to provide advice on information systems strategy, management and service delivery
- Requires knowledge of theory and analytical techniques related to business administration, economics, commerce, or a related field in order to provide analysis of a wide range of operational and business situations and problems, and demonstrated competencies to improve organizational operations
- Requires knowledge of operational functions on an enterprise-wide basis (e.g. information technology (IT), finance and treasury, market system operations, settlements, long term energy planning, human resources and project management).
- Knowledge of fiduciary and commercial general liability insurance programs.
