Description
Job Summary

Dominion Energy is seeking candidates to be a part of the Electric Transmission System Operations Center Operations Engineering team. We are looking for candidates at all levels of our Engineering Series; Associate Engineer, Engineer, Senior Engineer, and Staff Engineer. See below for details on the requirements and expectations of each title.

The candidates will be part of a team that supports our system operators and engineers in the Electric Transmission System Operations Center. Specifically, successful candidates will work within either our:

  • SOC Engineering Projects team with a focus on Operator Tools, reporting to the Manager of SOC Operations Engineering, or within our
  • SOC Engineering Support team with a focus on Network Applications, reporting to the Supervisor of SOC Operations Engineering

It's an exciting time to join our team, as we are beginning an EMS Upgrade project, developing a synchrophasor-based EMS with WAMS capabilities to act as a secondary EMS, incorporating Dynamic Line Ratings, and more. The System Operations Center (SOC) is the heart of any Power Utility, and your experiences on this team will provide an excellent foundation for any career in the industry.

Our Network Applications team supports our State Estimation and Contigency Analysis applications, ensuring they solve reliably and accurately at all times, are responsible for our external modeling, and support our Operators as knowledgeable Power System consultants when needed. They also provide support for any other projects within our team or the company where their expertise is needed.

Our Operator Tools Engineer role primarily focuses on the projects within our team, from smaller Customer Work Requests received from the control room to large multi-year capital projects such as our EMS Upgrade or Synchrophasor EMS projects. This role focuses more on understanding the needs of our customers (System Operators, Reliability Engineers, DTS/Operator Certification team, etc.), understanding the problems they are facing, and understanding the tools available to them today and available on the market. Operator Tools Engineers then work with our team, project managers, IT, our vendors, and our customers to design, test, train on, and maintain these tools in production.

Please indicate if you are interested in only one or the other role, or if you are interested in either, when applying.

This position will be hired within the Engineering Series of titles based on the appropriate experience level.

Candidates should have a strong electrical engineering background and possess strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices, preferably in electric power systems and/or software development.
