Provides comprehensive accounting oversight for CPS Energy, including the implementation of appropriate accounting guidance and the development and ongoing monitoring of accounting policies, procedures, guidelines, and controls. This role also includes preparing white papers to support key accounting positions and collaborating with key operational departments and business strategy leaders to support strategic decision-making related to revenues, fuel, and energy settlements.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Leads and designs strategic plans to address and report on trends, seasonal factors, and accounting guidance that impacts revenue, fuel, and energy settlements.
Coordinates and ensures timely, accurate and comprehensive recording and accounting for CPS Energy revenues and Nodal market cost allocations.
Continually monitors CPS Energy's internal control environment and makes necessary recommendations.
Provides critical oversight to the recording of ERCOT settlement data.
Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate reporting of ERCOT settlement data.
Provides critical oversight to the recording of complex bilateral transaction data in the PCI system.
Approves the settlement and payment of gas purchase transactions on a timely basis.
Responsible for the development and execution of procedures to support any technology changes impacting the revenue, fuel, and energy settlements teams.
Manages the timely, accurate and comprehensive allocation of all transactional data in the PCI settlement module.
Approves and monitors through to final resolution disputes filed with ERCOT.
Provides leadership, advisory, and action plans as needed to support the projects and deliverables managed and/or assigned to the revenue, fuel, and energy settlements teams.
Manages development and mentors Revenue & Fuels and Energy Settlements staff, to include providing learning and development opportunities, cross training of staff and preparation of procedure documentation to ensure adequate backup of all functions in the area, and ongoing focus on staff engagement, safety, and practice of behavioral principles and core values.
Performs other duties, including complex special projects, as assigned.
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Demonstrated extensive experience in the financial field with increasing levels of responsibility.
Well-established experience leading a financial team of five or more individuals with a mix of professional and clerical staff.
Building solid relationships with numerous internal and external parties and present financial/accounting positions to senior management and external parties.
Analyzing financial and operational data and implementing recommendations when required.
Developing detailed work plans, schedules, models, and status reports, as well as track projects and ensure adherence to timetables and deliverables.
Creating and/or evaluating complex models to evaluate transaction economics and the financial impact to the company.
Providing technical/analytical financial guidance to operational teams.
Knowledge of SAP Financial Processes.
Knowledge of ERCOT market operations and settlement activities.
Must have a valid class C Texas Driver's license with a favorable driving record.
Proficient in SAP or Oracle.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling
Preferred Qualifications
CPA, CIA, or comparable financial certification
MBA with concentration in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Experience with SAP or Oracle accounting and reporting systems.
Experience in the Utility industry.
