In this role the successful candidate will participate in helping evolve the systems and processes that support Ontario's $26B+ electricity market to ensure timely and accurate settlement and help drive better reliability.
What you'll do
In this role, you'll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of appropriate processes, systems and procedures to support metering, meter registration, meter data management, and/or settlement activities for the IESO-administered market.
- Assist in reviewing the effectiveness of existing processes and contribute to the development and implementation of effectiveness and efficiency improvements, as necessary.
- Provide technical and analytical support to both internal and external customers. Investigate customer inquiries or complaints, or provide support to settlement staff investigating such inquiries or complaints.
- Provide support and assistance in one or more of the following areas:
- Developing and maintaining the functional specifications for metering installations including site documentation and totalization tables, on-site communication equipment and systems, meter data collection system interfaces and meter data management processes and requirements.
- Tracking and processing document submissions in support of meter registration activities. Analyze and review metering installation proposals, measurement and verification (M&V) plans, commissioning reports and post-installation audit reports to confirm compliance with market rules. Identify non-compliances and communicate these concerns to metering staff, as necessary.
- Maintaining records, work methods, policies and procedures relating to the market rules and legislation. This includes development and maintenance of market manuals, internal settlement guidelines, system documentation, training packages and tracking tools as related to metering, meter registration, meter data management and/or settlement activities.
- Producing user requirements for associated application software, the performance of acceptance testing and the identification of business requirements for hardware. Implement appropriate settlements processes/adjustments applied when data is missing/incorrect, contractual requirements are not met, and/or "ad hoc" situations, at the direction of senior Settlement staff.
- Preparing and analyzing data and information including estimation of meter data, settlement adjustments for notice of disagreements (NODs) and disputes for application to settlement statements, for use in settlement decision-making, to meet corporate financial reporting requirements and as negotiated with other business units or customers.
- Perform other duties as required.
In a typical day, you will be involved in supporting the administration and integrity of market metering, meter registration, meter data management, and settlement processes within the IESO-administered electricity market. The individual reviews and analyzes metering-related submissions, such as installation proposals, commissioning reports, and measurement and verification plans, to ensure compliance with market rules and identify any issues requiring follow-up. They provide technical and analytical support to internal teams and external customers by investigating inquiries, resolving data discrepancies, and assisting with settlement adjustments when required. The role also includes maintaining documentation, procedures, training materials, and system requirements, as well as participating in process improvement initiatives, software testing, and data analysis to enhance operational efficiency and support accurate market settlements.
Role Requirements

To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- Requires knowledge of electrical theory, power system analysis and control, mathematics and computer sciences to carry out engineering, economic or analytical studies related to the application and performance of metering installations, meter data management and settlement activities. Requires good written and oral communication skills in order to prepare effective reports, process description/user guides, system documentation and to deal effectively with internal and external contacts involved in accomplishing work objectives.
- This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of 4 years University education, or by having the equivalent.
- Requires exposure to system and market operations and an understanding of applicable market rules, legislation and practices related to metering, meter data management and settlement activities.
- Requires a good understanding of the electrical utility industry and experience in meter data management and metering systems including applicable regulatory requirements, equipment characteristics, installation and field practices, maintenance practices and loss adjustment methodologies.
- Requires experience to become familiar with the nature of studies and investigations carried out by the different sections and groups of the organization. Requires experience to become familiar with statistical and database software, desktop software applications, various PC-based query and calculation tools and computer system interfaces. Requires further on-the-job experience to become familiar with methods and practices associated with the work functions. Requires experience in providing advice to others including good customer service skills.
