The Engineer position holds the responsibility for the safe, reliable, and economic round-the-clock operation of the generation, electric transmission, and distribution systems. Duties include Engineering responsibilities for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation activities of our power plants, transmission lines, substations, distribution system, gas systems, control centers and others. These Engineering duties may include continuous monitoring and balancing of energy flow and responding to system disturbances, along with all generation, distribution, and transmission activities that provide electric and gas services to customers.
This role will also support highly cross-functional planning and system strategy initiatives in a dynamic and evolving environment. The Engineer will partner across generation, transmission, distribution, gas, forecasting, finance, regulatory, and operations functions to evaluate complex technical information, support long-range system planning efforts, and help develop practical, data-informed recommendations that improve reliability, cost effectiveness, and operational readiness. Success in this role requires comfort working through ambiguity, building processes, and helping shape new or evolving programs from the ground up.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Attends seminars, continuing education opportunities for professional development

- May include limited supervisory responsibilities, including lower level engineers
- Makes frequent independent decisions and recommendations that affect the section, department, and/or division
- Participates in and provides input to area budget

- May sign and seal own engineering work and engineering work prepared by staff under his/her oversight
- Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned
- Support cross-functional planning initiatives by partnering with internal stakeholders across generation, transmission, distribution, gas, operations, forecasting, finance, and other business units to evaluate system needs and identify engineering solutions.
- Analyzes technical, operational, and planning data to support long-range infrastructure strategies, capital investment prioritization, and system performance improvement efforts.
- Helps develop, refine, and document processes, assumptions, methodologies, and recommendations in support of new or evolving engineering and planning programs.
- Provides engineering input into complex, multi-disciplinary initiatives where requirements, processes, or program structure may be developing in real time.
- Prepares technical analyses, presentations, and recommendations for leadership and cross functional partners to support informed decision making.
- Identifies risks, dependencies, and improvement opportunities across interconnected systems and recommends practical actions to improve reliability, efficiency, and value to customers.
Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
- Texas Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated mastery of engineering discipline skills.
- Ability to lead cross-functional business initiatives and teams.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively handle a broad range of engineering assignments with minimum supervision.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams on internal projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage project costs, timeline, scope, and risks.
- Ability to effectively check work product for adequacy, quality and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills focused on understanding customer needs and developing resolution.
- Strong people skills, with bias for a collaborative working style.
- Ability to work call duty and occasional unscheduled work in the evenings, weekends, or holidays after experience level permits.
- Ability to travel occasionally, to off-site work, to seminars, manufacturing plant inspections, etc.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Transmission engineering experience
- Master's degree from an accredited university
