Step 1: $126,308 to Step 10: $180,388

The successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate step within the salary grade/band, based on relevant years of experience and other applicable considerations.

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real-time, overseeing and evolving Ontario's electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario's future electricity needs. This is a unionized position that falls within the Regulatory Affairs and Compliance Assurance Division and the Legal Resources and Corporate Governance Business Unit.

As Supervisor, Regulatory Proceedings, you will lead the IESO's participation in regulatory proceedings and policy initiatives that shape Ontario's electricity sector and influence broader North American policy. Through leadership, strategic advocacy, and relationship building, you will help advance organizational priorities while supporting a reliable, sustainable, and efficient electricity system for the province.

What you'll do

In this role, you'll make a meaningful impact by contributing to the IESO team and supporting the electricity needs of the province through:

  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of Advisors and Senior Advisors responsible for regulatory proceedings and policy initiatives

  • Setting priorities and directing team participation in regulatory proceedings based on organizational objectives and strategic priorities

  • Developing and recommending IESO positions, submissions, and regulatory strategies on matters of significance to the organization

  • Representing and advocating for the IESO in regulatory proceedings, including Ontario Energy Board (OEB) technical conferences, settlement conferences, hearings, and other stakeholder forums

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory agencies, government organizations, industry associations, market participants, and regulatory forums, including FERC, NERC, NPCC, and CER, to support effective engagement and decision-making

In a typical day, you will:

  • Monitor regulatory developments and proceedings across Ontario, Canada, and North America, assessing potential impacts, risks, and opportunities for the IESO
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on regulatory matters to internal stakeholders, business units, and senior leadership
  • Manage regulatory projects and filings, ensuring submissions are completed in accordance with regulatory requirements and established timelines
  • Oversee the preparation and management of evidence submitted in external rate applications, leave-to-construct proceedings, distribution plans, and other regulatory matters
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations, licenses, reporting requirements, applicable market rules, and industry standards

Right now/recently, this position has been involved in:

  • Leading the IESO's annual Revenue Requirement Submission to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), including fee design, evidence development, and participation in regulatory proceedings that support the IESO's mandate and strategic priorities
  • Supporting the IESO's participation in regulatory and policy initiatives across Ontario and North America, helping assess emerging industry developments, regulatory changes, and their potential impacts on the organization and electricity sector

Role Requirements

Our team consists of experts from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their unique perspectives and skills. 

To succeed in this role, you'll need: 

Required

  • University degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Information Technology, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in Ontario's electricity sector, including knowledge of market structures, industry participants, and regulatory frameworks
  • Significant experience leading or participating in complex regulatory proceedings, particularly before the Ontario Energy Board (OEB)
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, including coaching, performance management, employee development, and workforce planning
  • Strong knowledge of rate design principles, economic analysis, financial evaluation, and business risk assessment
  • Proven experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex regulatory, operational, and financial issues
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including preparing regulatory submissions, reports, briefing materials, and executive-level recommendations
  • Strong verbal communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing diverse audiences and representing an organization in public forums
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in environments characterized by ambiguity, evolving priorities, and competing interests

Assets

  • Experience appearing before regulatory tribunals, hearings, technical conferences, or settlement conferences
  • Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and organizations such as FERC, NERC, NPCC, CER, or other North American electricity regulators
  • Experience leading regulatory filings involving rates, fees, tariffs, licenses, or market rule development
  • Professional designation or advanced degree in a relevant discipline
  • Experience working with executive leadership teams and providing strategic advice on regulatory and policy matters
