Under general supervision, provides a variety of electrical /mechanical inspection, testing and maintenance procedures on substation remote communication and fault recording equipment. Approves proper installation and operations of Remote Terminal Units and their communication to the SCADA main database. Coordinates with other departments and contractors for the accurate completion of new construction and rework projects. Assist all areas, upon request, for projects that require SCADA changes. Approves proper installation and operation of relay carrier and transfer trip communication equipment and the systems fault recording equipment..
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
Performs varied tasks and projects directly related to craft trade. Gathers and analyzes relevant information to develop and implement the best course of action to ensure job is successfully completed in a safe manner. Often works under minimal or no supervision. Resolves most questions and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher level. Resolves problems through mastery of craft, trade knowledge and principles. Follows established Operating Procedures, Operating Practices and Approved Work Methods to accomplish requirements of job. Possesses career level knowledge to successfully perform job.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepares and executes error-free switching for normal test maintenance, for emergency repair and service restoration able to operate switches in a safe and professional manner.
Stays current on pertinent technologies through continuous education.
Maintains required records and reports as delegated by the supervisor.
Assists in the development and training of apprentice and engineering trainees through on-the-job training and instruction when applicable.
Maintains standard stock items for mobile work van and vehicles; equipment and tools are properly stored and maintained.
Maintains a complete and accurate file of the areas regarding prints, records, and reports.
All other duties as assigned.
Training for peer technicians furnished, upon request.
Practices and assures safe work methods regarding all test and inspections.
Confers with supervision, engineering power delivery, relay technicians and interconnect utility personnel to insure proper integration and operation of the EMS/DMS system.
Performs inspections and testing of all types of fault recording equipment.
Performs internal and external inspection and testing of all types of relay carrier and transfer trip schemes.
Checks the performance of SCADA system including computer, RTU and communication response standards.
Performs acceptance tests on new SCADA equipment and performs field acceptance tests.
Maintains a limited spare inventory for SCADA system and RTU's.
Also recommends supplies and instructional material.
Analyzes and isolates communication line difficulties between RTU's and Control Center(s) and Interconnect utilities.
Performs diagnostic procedures using portable master remote unit (PMRU), tests sets and procedural instructions to locate and replace faulty modules and defective components on RTU's.
Responsible for updating all SCADA related manuals, prints and documentation.
Develop, update, and install hardware, firmware, and software on SCADA equipment.
Performs modifications and/or configuration changes on the RTU's as required to accommodate new or changed measurement/monitoring points in hardware, firmware and software.
Performs internal and external inspection and testing of all types of Remote Terminal Unit equipment.
REQUIREMENTS
APPRENTICE
- Associate's Degree in Electrical/Electronics or Applied Science with emphasis on Industrial Electrical Technology, or a 2 year certificate in Industrial Electrical/Electronics, And 3 years industrial protection and controls experience, And
- 4 years of directly related experience (e.g., Protection and Control Technician or Relay Technician).
JOURNEY
- Associate's Degree in Electrical/Electronics or Applied Science with emphasis on Industrial Electrical Technology, or a 2 year certificate in Industrial Electrical/Electronics, And 3 years industrial protection and controls experience, And
- 4 years of directly related experience (e.g., Protection and Control Technician or Relay Technician) *** AND completion of OG&E Apprentice Program or equivalent program.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Required to work away from home for extended periods, as needed, with overnight stay (could exceed 7 days).
Maintains or obtain all required certifications (e.g., Class A Switching).
May be required to cross-train in various crafts and operation department at various times of the year.
Physically able to perform duties of the job including lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
May be required to work non-standard work schedules to including overtime, weekends, holidays, on-call and call-outs.
May be exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather with considerable exposure to extreme heat and cold.
Required to maintain permanent residence within a 45 minute driving time to the Assigned Service Center.
