Job Summary

The Work Methods and Development Consultant is responsible for the design and delivery of training programs in one or more of the following areas: Electric Operations, Gas Operations and/or Customer Care Center areas.  Develops and updates training documentation as needed to ensure compliance with regulations, meet safety and operational needs and meets or exceeds industry standards.  Utilizes knowledge of adult learning theory to develop and deliver technical and non-technical training using multiple medium.  Participate in safety and operator qualifications activities and/or performance investigations.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Summarize the essential duties/responsibilities regularly performed and normally assigned to the position. 

Develop Technical Training

  • Independently develop technical and non-technical training materials including writing leader and participant guides utilizing significant knowledge of technical requirements, safety considerations and best practices and business requirements.
  • Identify and develop learning objectives to deliver intended results.
  • Responsible to maintain and administer  Electric, Gas Operations or  Customer Care Center  Work Methods/Procedures development, editing and publication to align with regulations, safety and operational needs and industry standards and procedures, i.e.  Written DOT Operator Qualifications, PHMSA, OSHA Qualifications, Company knowledge base, etc.
  • Identify and develop, as necessary, appropriate audiovisual materials to enhance and support training activities (adult learning practices).
  • Reviews appropriate technical documentation and determines applicability for inclusion in training program in order to meet learning objectives.
  • Prepare written materials that follow generally accepted rules of style and form, are appropriate for the audience, and accomplish the training objectives.
  • Prepare clear statements of behavioral objectives that describe the desired results of training.
  • Develop theoretical and practical models that illustrate complex ideas in understandable, usable ways.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in at least one technical specialty area (e.g. instrumentation, mechanical, electrical, operations, simulator, operations support, customer care support, etc.)

Conduct Technical / Non-Technical Training

  • Apply adult learning theory, group process skills, and other generally accepted training techniques for facilitation of classroom/ on-the-job training and individual coaching sessions.
  • When applicable, train tasks associated with Written Regulatory/ DOT / Operator Qualification Plan as required. Deliver or co-facilitate technical and leadership training for lead represented or other positions.
  • Maintain and proactively expand relationships with a variety of business unit, organizational, and union constituencies.
  • Conduct field observations of operators in order to assess performance and determine if learner may advance/progress based on meeting (or not meeting) requirements of higher level position. Advancement/progression determination is made by this position based on administration of written and/or verbal knowledge tests, observation of performance including appropriate use of tools, safety equipment, and following established procedures.
  • Conduct incident investigations to determine cause and can suspend operator qualifications based determination of cause.  Independently determines learner advancement /progression or denial of advancement; award or suspend qualifications based on performance incidents or lack of demonstrated knowledge and skills.  Determine based on learner poor performance (evaluations and tests) onset of disciplinary plans/actions.
  • Use an understanding of the business unit and business unit goals to provide a context for training and to provide input to business unit supervisor and managers about trainee performance.
  • Learn current developments and trends in all relevant technical/professional knowledge areas.
  • Maintain training records.
  • Identify improvement opportunities (e.g. productivity, quality, efficiency, cost, cycle time, and workflow and customer satisfaction) within the organization/ department/work unit.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Work Methods Level Requires: 2-3 years Operations or relevant experience.  In lieu of operations experience, a bachelors degree is required and a minimum of 2-3 years' experience in teaching/training
  • Strong analysis, decision making and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with others
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple tasks under time constraints
  • Experience working with project management methodology beneficial
  • Proficient in standard office software (MS Excel, Visio, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Dedicates required time and energy to overcome obstacles to completing tasks and assignments.
  • Seeks and uses feedback and other sources of information to identify appropriate areas for learning
  • Understanding of basic adult learning concepts and practices beneficial
  • Ability to perform responsibilities identified in Associate Work Methods and Development Consultant Position

Preferred Qualifications

  • PROSCI Change Management
  • Experience in learning and design tools and programs, in fast-paced environment (e.g. Articulate 360, Vyond, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite), LMS and LXP platforms, and Microsoft 365)
  • Experience with Adult Learning
