Description

As a Design Technician II, you have the chance to apply your engineering knowedge and analytical capabilities to sophisticated engineering and customer service challenges. You will work on projects with the goal of increasing the sustainability, safety, and reliability of our generation, transmission and electricity distribution platforms.

Qualifications

  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license

  • Have a High School diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • Pass the EEI Tech Test or other Company approved proficiency test

  • And must also meet one of the following criteria:

  • A minimum of a 2-year Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Energy Management Technology, Industrial Engineering, Engineering University Transfer, Electric Power Engineering/Technology, a Program Certificate in Electric Power Technology from Bismarck State College or equivalent military training in the fields listed above.

  • Journeyman's electrician license or equivalent military training as an electrician.

Responsibilities

Under supervision, facilitates design of electric projects of growing difficulty including three phase electric extensions, replacements or revocations.

  • Ability to cover all aspects of the Design Technician I

  • Design projects of growing difficulty under directive supervision such as:

- Three phase extension (overhead and underground)

- Three phase replacements, revocations or removal

- Distribution of facilities under-built on transmission poles

- Relocation of existing facilities-

- Highway/Governmental projects

  • Understand basic tariff and billing policies.

  • Interact with commercial, industrial and government customers, developers, architects and engineers from outside firms and other DP&L personnel.

  • Assist and teach other Company personnel in matters relating to electric distribution design.

  • Identify and analyze abnormal conditions on the electric distribution systems.

  • Help guide/mentor newer members to the department.

  • Perform other similar or skilled work.
