Job Summary
This role will be based in Tulsa, Oklahoma where the candidate will be responsible for permit, reporting, project, regulatory tracking, and compliance support for air-related regulatory programs primarily for existing or new power generating stations. Responsibilities will also include periodic air permit and compliance support for other company facilities (e.g., electric transmission and distribution, operating company service centers, office buildings, or other regulated and commercial business operations). The individual will exhibit expert or advanced level proficiency that enables them to serve as a subject matter expert. Previous air compliance experience, a working knowledge of Oklahoma rules (e.g., NSR/PSD, Title V, emission inventories, NSPS, NESHAP, compliance reporting, regulatory applicability analysis), and self-motivation is a must. What you'll do:
- Coordinates and performs compliance and support activities such as permit interpretation, applicability, preparation of applications/modifications, reporting, commenting on draft permits, agency negotiations, complex/advanced data analysis, facility compliance reviews, training sessions, and compliance audits.
- Serves as an internal expert resource and is highly recognized and regarded by those external to the company.
- Develops, recommends, and implements plans to address complex compliance problems that require input and efforts from a wide array of entities both internal and external to the company.
- Ability to swiftly prioritize tasks to ensure responsiveness and support to stakeholders, which may be on a time-sensitive or expedited schedule.
- Identifies, resolves, and initiates solutions to complex problems that are unique to the company and industry and requires extensive specialized knowledge, or the development of knowledge and techniques.
- Leads, facilitates and coordinates work activities of others within work group, team, department, or those external to the company (e.g., consultants) and assumes the role of project manager to perform compliance work.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication and leads in the preparation and presentation of the most complex technical subjects, clearly, concisely, and persuasively, bringing in ancillary issues before senior management, professional organizations, regulatory bodies, etc.
- Identifies and initiates pro-active changes to regulations and standards, in the interests of the company, and engages multiple stakeholders in the process, networking throughout AEP, other companies, professional organizations, and regulatory agencies.
What we're looking for:
Environmental Engineer SG7
- Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*
- Or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a master's degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*
- Individuals with a PhD in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.
*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Acceptable alternative:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited bachelor's program.
** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
Environmental Specialist Senior SG7
Education:
- Bachelor's degree (environmental science, biology, chemistry, natural resources, or ecology or related field)
Experience:
- Minimum of 6 years of environmental experience.
In addition:
- Must be available to work overtime, call out overtime and shift work, as required.
- Travel requirements are expected 10-25% of the time
- Physical demand level is Sedentary
- Individuals with a Master's or Doctorate degree may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
- Registration in recognized associations and organizations for environmental professionals is encouraged.
- 40 hours per week with some overtime required.
- 10% travel required.
