Job Summary
This position is a qualified, experienced radiological chemist technician who complies with the plant's Technical Specifications staff requirements. The incumbent may work independently and performs chemical analysis, routine surveillances and inspections in accordance with procedures. This position may maintain records and various types of instruments and equipment. Results of nuclear plant system chemical analysis and data are analyzed to determine compliance with plant parameters and appropriate corrective measures are prescribed. Other duties related to the department's assigned responsibilities may be required to be performed by supervisor. Supervisor provides general guidance and makes work assignments.
Supervisory Responsibilities
May occasionally direct the activities of other radiological chemist technicians when assigned by supervisor.
Supervision Received
Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems.
Skills and Proficiencies (May be job or organization specific)
Demonstrated proficiency in the performance of radio-analytical analysis methods and operation of radio-analytical lab instrumentation
Proficiency with the mathematics used in the equations and calculations used in the lab
Proficiency in chemical lab safety and the safe handle of radioactive materials
Basic computer skills are required for this position
Minimum Qualifications (Consistent with Classification Standard)
Education and Experience/Certificates, Licenses, and Registration Requirements/Other Requirements
A. S. degree in chemistry, engineering, environmental science, physics, health physics physical science or computer science or a comparable training program in nuclear plant chemistry. Additionally, the incumbent shall meet the nuclear policy qualification requirements for technicians.
Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and S-3 and S-4 medical qualifications when applicable. Must be able and willing to assume "on-call" rotational assignments which may include 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week availability. Must be willing and medically able to work rotating shifts and maximum overtime permitted by TVAN procedures during peak periods. Must be able and willing to travel to plant locations as required when performing assigned tasks and, as necessary, to be temporarily assigned to a field location. The position requires use of protective clothing and work in areas with elevated temperatures, high noise backgrounds, asbestos, radiation, and other industrial hazards.
