Description
Job Summary

You will have the ability to provide engineering and technical support services associated with the design, construction, and operation of CenterPoint Energy's overhead & underground distribution system.

Essential Functions

  • Review and analyze customer submitted site plans, structural drawings, electric one-lines, schematics, and load analysis.  Design underground facilities for electric service. 
  • Prepare cost estimates and Terms & Conditions packages for electric service to customers.  Inspect customer required construction to approve/disapprove. 
  • Prepare work orders, easement documents, agreement letters and operational agreements. 
  • Perform cable pull analysis, protective device coordination studies, motor start and fault current calculations. 
  • Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards (i.e. National Electric Safety Code, National Electric Code, etc.). 
  • Support the construction, operations and maintenance of the distribution system through communication with field personnel and customers. 
  • Gather and analyze data, prepare written reports, give oral presentations related to distribution systems. 
  • Prepare new or revise engineering/technical specifications. 
  • Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors and internal departments.

Education Description

Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university or, sixty hours of credits in an engineering discipline and at least 1 year of on-the-job technical experience in an engineering or electric utility environment.

Experience

  • 2 years' experience in construction, utility operations, utility support roles, or related industry experience. 
  • Able to use mathematics, including trigonometry and calculus, to complete complex engineering design calculations and relate mathematical solutions to actual utility situations. 
  • Able to interpret, analyze and produce electrical models, drawings and technical documents. 
  • Able to apply knowledge of electrical theory and system operations to daily decisions. 
  • Able to make informed decisions, follow procedures and comply with policies based on the knowledge of the work and the services provided by CenterPoint Energy. 
  • Able to calculate system short circuit quantities using sequence networks.
