Job Summary
This position is responsible for safely inspecting, repairing, and mechanically supporting the company with locomotives, railcars, and other company equipment as necessary.

What you will do
- Demonstrate safe work practices while completing all tasks. This requires observing and following safety rules, policies and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors, which may lead to incidents.
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors as necessary in all weather conditions, including snow, ice, rain, cold and heat. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats and/or hearing protection is worn where required.
- Work with a positive attitude and be comfortable with contributing to a team of 10-15, smaller groups, or as an individual.
- Understand, and be in compliance with, CRANDIC rules and procedures, GCOR, and FRA standards as they relate to position responsibilities.
- Perform various welding activities, oxygen/acetylene torch cutting, plasma cutting and metal fabrication.
- Analyze and review prints, diagrams and other reference material, such as technical drawings and manuals, to troubleshoot and repair locomotive problems and troubleshoot and repair railcar issues.
- Perform inspection and maintenance on locomotives, railcars, and other company equipment.
- Complete inspection and repair documentation and billing accurately and efficiently.
- Read and understand various gauges and instruments.
- Drive company vehicle as assigned. Operate power equipment and tools.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma Required
Required Experience
- 3 years engine maintenance experience, preferably diesel engine experience.
- Wire welding certified or able to pass a welding certification within 90 days of accepting position.
Other Requirements
- This position is subject to DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements under 49 CFR Part 40 and FRA (Part 219) and FMCSA (Part 382) regulations.
- Must possess valid driver's license and have the ability to acquire a CDL within 60 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to train on and use equipment such as welders, torches, forklifts, scissor lift, as well as various types of hand, power and hydraulic tools.
- Ability to obtain locomotive engineer and conductor license.
