In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our   Corporate Affairs & Market Development is currently hiring for a Senior Strategist, Business Strategy, driving business development and policy.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, or Toronto Ontario.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adopt and promote the Bruce Power values, demonstrating leadership in behaviours that support these values.

  • Foster teamwork and a stimulating work environment.

  • Provide support and assistance to Senior Leaders in managing the division in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs and agreements.

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation, related to assigned functions, which lays down requirements for ensuring that correct and safe practices are followed.

  • Ensure value for money and achievement of the division's business plan.

  • Monitor performance and initiate any actions necessary to correct any adverse trends.

  • Manage responsibilities in a manner which always seeks to enhance the Company's corporate reputation.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of the commercially sensitive information.

  • Develop, monitor and report on the implementation of both the division's internal and the partner's Business Development business plans to support the company's and partner's goals.

  • Develop, challenge and monitor the assumptions that underpin the financial models associated with the existing business and any new business opportunities as directed.

  • Develop, maintain and modify financial models and other appropriate analysis tools associated with evaluating the existing business and new business opportunities as directed.

  • Develop business cases for improvements to the current business model and new opportunities as directed.

  • Liaise with the senior management within the company and at the partner level.

  • Attends and represents Bruce Power at various working groups and committees.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Specific Functional Responsibilities:

  • Develop, recommend and influence various Bruce Power executives and partners on strategies going forward in the production of power, i.e., nuclear, gas, etc., which requires a high degree of tact and diplomacy.

  • Implement the chosen strategy to completion which would involve complex analysis, financial modelling, risk assessments and developing structures under which various strategies can be achieved.  This would involve dealing with investors, financial institutions, government and other agencies at a high level and be capable of influencing them to adopt a course of action suitable to the Company.

  • Participate in various labour relation issues that, if implemented, could have an impact on the work force.

  • Provide detailed background, strategies and recommendation to the Executive Team on various negotiations with the partners and others that are confidential in nature and could have a significant impact on various business decisions.

  • Develops and recommends strategic strategies to respond to changing requirements and to identify opportunities to initiate and pursue proposals for development in the company's interests.

Government Relations:

  • Provides confidential support to the Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations to maximize effective interactions with regulatory bodies and related government departments.

  • Acts as a registered Lobbyist on behalf of Bruce Power (as required by law).

  • Advocates the company's priority legislative, regulatory, and policy interests with holders of public office to persuade them to support legislation favorable to company's interest.

  • Monitors and identifies key political developments, regulatory changes, policy developments and trends. Confers with the Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations and Director of Corporate Affairs if issues may impact (positively or negatively) the company business plan.

  • Maintains active relations with government departments with impact on legislation or regulation related to nuclear policy or Bruce Power.

  • Maintains active relations with other industries (i.e., Gas, Oil, Mining, etc), industry associations and non-government organizations (i.e., Green Peace, other strategy groups, etc.) that are governed by similar regulation.

Education & Experience:

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of a four (4) year university degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Commerce, Political Science, History or Government Studies or related field.

  • A period of 8 years up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

  • Strong business acumen to recommend and lead solid courses of action based on available information and/or by tapping into the knowledge held by experts in and out of the company.

  • Ability to articulate and solve complex problems related to public policy.

  • Extensive experience with political concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial analysis and financial/business modelling.

  • Confident interpersonal skills to effectively work with Partners, Senior Management, and external stakeholders.
