ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting directly to the Gas Warehouse Manager, the Senior Warehouse Person will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of the afternoon requirements in the day-to-day transactional operations of the warehouses. This includes issuing, receiving and shipping materials, physical inventory counts; processing of returned materials and managing Kitting and Staging.

This role will appeal to someone who takes pride in attention to detail, is proactive in nature, initiates projects to cleanup backlog and/or improve processes, practices, housekeeping and safety.

This is a safety-sensitive position based out of our Keephills Thermal Plant, located 70 kilometres west of Edmonton, Alberta.

This is a UUWA position covered by the terms of the collective agreement.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

  • Ensuring alignment to all SCM /SOX processes with day-to-day management of the Warehouse activities
  • Coordination of resources and ensuring timely materials or equipment deliveries to designated staging areas.
  • Coordination of logistics with Procurement, Plant Management and Corporate Customs and Logistics Specialist - Coordination of transportation when materials are required to be moved on or off-site, or sent out for repair.
  • Leading the drive to improve inventory integrity - Ensuring the Cycle Count Process is completed on a daily basis, as well as associated Gap analysis and any inventory reconciliation.
  • A contact for emergencies within the plant, be aware of any emergent deliveries or requirements working with plant management
  • Responsible to attend or delegate as necessary, required meetings relative to planning, scheduling, Work Management (Kitting & Staging, Outages)
  • Lead the repairable process. Ability to create or delegate the creation of all applicable documentation including Requisitions for Procurement, daily loading and off-loading
  • Take a lead role in staff and safety (daily) meetings, communicate and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate material requirement to support Production schedules.
  • Issuing of parts to the Sundance Plant within required time frames
  • Ship and receive materials in inventory
  • Ensure accurate inventory levels and availability, following approved inventory Processes and Procedures.
  • Conducts daily inventory cycle counts precisely to ensure accuracy of inventory records.
  • Manage the reservations process to supply and deliver required materials to appropriate locations in a timely fashion through SAP Identification of materials and Materials Management
  • Lead and ensure daily housekeeping activities are completed in all warehouse buildings and exterior storage areas of accountability. Housekeeping standards are expected to be maintained at the highest level, ensuring a high degree of organization and compliance with safety standards
  • Take a leading role in initiating and implementing new processes and procedures(i.e. Work Management)
  • Stay current in Supply Chain Management industry Best Practices
  • Lead special projects as directed by the warehouse supervisor

ABOUT YOU

  • Minimum Grade 12 education
  • Specialized academic training or equivalent is preferred (e.g. PMAC, Journeyman Warehouse Certification)
  • Ability to work safely within a team environment
  • Familiarity with Generation business and required materials used in the operation
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as relationship building skills
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team
  • Highly motivated, self-driven, ability to work without direction
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office, and high level working knowledge of Excel preferred.
  • Knowledge in SAP preferred
  • Firm knowledge of current warehousing practices
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to TransAlta's safety standards
  • Skilled in operating a variety of materials and handling equipment

    • 12,000lb Sellick Forklift
    • 10,000lb Forklift
    • 5,000lb Forklift
    • 3,000lb Raymond Stand-up Forklift
    • Rapistak Overhead Crane
    • Rhino UTV
  • Knowledge and use of material management programs (including functional knowledge of SAP system).
  • Responsible for unit pairs as a materials coordinator where required (manage material issues specific to your assigned area.
  • Must be TDG Certified (requires successful completion of on-line training)
  • Manage pipe/pressure parts using mandated IMS Receiving Procedures as it relates to ABSA regulations.
