The Accountant II will perform professional level financial accounting and reporting activities. The Accountant prepares reports and financial documents, performs revenue and expense analysis, reconciles data to the general ledger, and performs other related duties as assigned. All work must be accomplished in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in developing the annual budget and research variances to budget throughout the year.
Develop into an expert in the company's assigned accounting/operational area within three years; Expected to act as a knowledge source within the accounting department and external departments.
Review and analyze financial transactions to ensure their correct posting to the general ledger.
Research, verify, and enter adjusting entries to the general ledger to correct erroneous postings.
Review and analyze the workflow of financial data to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and appropriateness of accounting records, including comparisons to budget.
Prepare monthly financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flows, and supporting analysis.
Consult, research, and advise other departments relative to accounting activities.
Develop new procedures/workflows to improve accounting processes' efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness.
Assist the Accounting Assistants and Accountant I's in evaluating the reasonableness of data, spotting errors, recognizing erroneous relationships, and identifying potential problem areas.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field with successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of accounting courses.
3-5 years of related work experience with extensive capital project experience.
Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications; strong qualitative, quantitative, and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to excel in a team environment; effective interpersonal skills; and effective oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated skills to deal effectively with customers and employees and to understand detailed processes and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to collect, process, analyze and organize large quantities of detailed information into logical, concise reports and/or presentations.
Demonstrated ability to obtain proficiency in the use of computerized software and office equipment.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated experience in processing data with high speed and accuracy.
Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness, and creativity in situations involving various duties, often characterized by frequent changes.
