Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert and standard owner for ALLETE Clean Energy's FERC and NERC compliance program, ensuring the renewable generation fleet remains reliable, audit-ready, and compliant.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance for substations, protection systems, and electrical equipment supporting wind facilities, including maintenance, repair, and operational activities.
  • Review, interpret, and communicate new or revised FERC, NERC, and Regional Entity requirements, clarifying applicability to the company's low-impact renewable fleet and supporting facility personnel with compliance issues.
  • Perform and evaluate electrical studies (short circuit, arc flash, relay operation, real/reactive power, VAR control, protection coordination) using tools such as ETAP, SKM, and SEL software suites.
  • Lead and coordinate compliance activities including audits, self-certifications, spot checks, evidence gathering, mitigation, and program validations.
  • Track industry trends, emerging reliability risks, and evolving technical standards to proactively identify impacts to GO/GOP operations.
  • Integrate technology platforms (SharePoint, document management systems, operational data) into compliance workflows to improve documentation, evidence management, reporting, and quality assurance.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Four or more years of related engineering experience*
    OR
  • Two or more years of related engineering experience* PLUS certification as an Engineer-in-Training.
    • *A master's degree in engineering may be equivalent for up to one year of related experience.
  • Technical knowledge of power plant operations (particularly renewable facilities), including the interrelationship of registered entity functions, and compliance with operation and maintenance functions desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FERC, NERC and Regional Reliability Entities orders, regulations, standards, and working knowledge of monitoring and reporting requirements desirable
