JOB SUMMARY:
Southern Nuclear Operating Company's corporate Fleet Plant Support (FPS) Department provides support for the Southern Nuclear Fleet. We are seeking an experienced engineer that will be responsible for providing technical leadership and guidance in plant systems and components. The successful candidate should have a working knowledge of a nuclear power generation plant and systems (both mechanical and electrical desired), experience with components (both mechanical and electrical desired), nuclear site processes, and an understanding of industry performance and regulations is a plus. Activities include setting strategic long-term direction, implementing industry best practices, developing/maintaining fleet procedures, participating and leading in industry working groups, system/component and refueling outage support, and troubleshooting complex problems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited college or university, or Professional Engineer license, is required. (Engineering Technology will not be accepted).
Experience:
The position will be filled as either a level 6 or 7 (lateral moves only for internal candidates) depending on the successful candidate's qualifications and expertise.
- A strong technical background in engineering and working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements related to nuclear power generating facilities.

Four (4) years of experience with systems and components is required (both mechanical and electrical desired).

Six (6) or more years of experience is preferred in the areas outlined above.

Ability to ensure SNC stays abreast of emerging issues and technological developments in components, to work closely with site engineering, maintenance, operations, and work control personnel by providing expertise for assigned components and systems.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will be responsible for their assigned system and component performance, long term strategy implementation, and ensuring that processes/procedures are developed, standardized, and implemented throughout the SNC fleet. The Engineer is responsible for establishing the appropriate metrics/methods to ascertain system and component performance, develop improvement plans, provide the technical basis for system and component improvements, assist in problem solving/troubleshooting initiatives, supporting fleet initiatives such as subsequent license renewal, Extended Power Uprates, change in fuel cycle for PWRs from 18 months to 24 months, and providing specific technical subject matter expertise to the nuclear plant Engineering, Operations, and Maintenance groups as necessary.
