Location: This position is onsite at the {Trail St. Lab located in Jackson, Michigan. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate.
LOCATION
This is a hybrid position (virtual/onsite) with 80% travel requirements throughout Michigan's lower peninsula and assigned to the Trail St. Lab in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance from the location or willing to relocate.
GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Associate Lab Technician uses formal technical training, education, scientific principles, and hands-on experience to collect data and follow simple standardized procedures to produce data. The incumbent is expected to apply their experience and problem-solving capabilities to ensure the quality and validity of the data produced. Limited problem solving and troubleshooting of processes and equipment are expected to be able to be performed, limited analytical work, process and procedure development, and optimization of standard process workflows.
The Associate NDT Lab Technician performs NDT (Nondestructive Testing) examinations and related activities such as: Radiography, Ultrasonic examinations, Visual examinations, Liquid penetrant, Magnetic particle, and Eddy current testing. Projects are typically located at fossil generating plants and natural gas pipelines along with other natural gas and electric generation facilities. Technicians are required to evaluate test results in accordance with nationally accepted codes and specifications. The individual will be required to work on extended out of town assignments within the state of Michigan and be willing to work significant overtime as necessary to meet job commitments. The position will require the individual to certify as an industrial radiographer and several other NDT test methods upon completion of training. This position involves work with high energy radioactive isotopes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ownership of work schedule to achieve daily, weekly, monthly productivity goals
- Assist with process and procedure development, industry code interpretation and application
- Limited direct customer interface on technician operated projects
- Follow basic standard procedures to produce repeatable data either for direct submission to customers or for further analytical work
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

EDUCATION
- High School Diploma/GED
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience performing routine technical work under standard procedures within an industry recognized quality system
- Associates degree in a scientific or technical field OR 48 scientific or technical credit hours as measured on a semester basis
- 48 scientific or technical credit hours can be obtained through colleges, technical institutes, licensed apprenticeship programs, trade schools, or military programs
