The Principal Regulatory Consultant provides extensive strategic support and ownership of the Regulatory processes for Customer Experience and Operations including Energy Waste Reduction filings, Demand Response Filings, Voluntary Green Pricing filings, Renewable Natural Gas Filings, general Rate Case filings, stakeholder engagements, and Regulatory landscape analysis to ensure maximum recovery and Regulatory support in the achievement of our Retail Strategy objectives. The incumbent will provide strategic oversight for the development and implementation of all MPSC regulatory filings associated with the implementation of the Retail Roadmap for the Customer Experience Organization in support of the Company's strategic destination. This includes strategy development; developing and sponsoring testimony, exhibits, and discovery in MPSC proceedings; represent the Customer organization and Company in internal and external work groups; and providing expert analyses and benchmarking of regulatory policies to inform senior management of potential risks and opportunities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drive the Company and team's regulatory initiatives by developing and sponsoring testimony in Michigan Public Service Commission proceedings, and working with internal and external partners to ensure operational consistency with the positions advocated and approved in the proceedings
- Manage regulatory filings with internal and external business partners
- Benchmark regulatory frameworks to inform management of potential risks and opportunities
- Analyze the strategic, operating and financial impacts of business proposals and/or external regulatory / legislative proposals
- Manage monthly and annual regulatory reporting with internal and external business partners
- Oversee Creation of stakeholder analyses and engagement strategy with key stakeholders and intervenors to ensure maximum recovery
- Other duties as assigned or may be necessary
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Proven ability to work across multiple aspects of the electric utility industry
- Advanced MS Office skills
- Broad understanding of the principles of rate-making at retail and wholesale levels
- Significant knowledge of the regulatory process, testimonial requirements and procedures for state commissions and FERC
- Expert ability to think systemically and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with a significant attention to detail
- Expert ability to create and deliver presentations with significant verbal and written communication skills
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Engineering or similar and 7 - 10 years of experience working in roles with regulatory process responsibility and support
