Summary
This position is part of the SRP Power Generation Operator Trainee Program (OT). The OT program is a four-year training program consisting of instructor led, self-study, and on-the-job and web based training. The OT program will also rotate through various generating sites to complete site-specific training. Much like the I&C Trainee program, or the apprenticeship program, it is designed to prepare motivated employees to progress into the role of Operations Specialist (OS).
If you are a current employee in a Trades Helper role, you do not need to take the assessment.
As part of the application process, all applicants will be taken to the SHL sign-in screen to take the Trades Assessment. Please select the assessment option and sign into the SHL system to take the assessment. If you have previously taken the assessment, the system will determine if your test score is still valid. If it is, your score will be submitted to your application and your application will be complete. If your test score is no longer valid, you will be directed to the assessment to complete it.
What You'll Do
Satisfactory completion of all training objectives to develop the skills necessary for promotion to the OS position.
Under direct supervision, learn facility specific operation of natural gas fired steam generating units and steam turbine generators, simple cycle gas turbines, combined cycle units, and all related equipment.
Learn and demonstrate proficiency in operating, inspecting, and monitoring in a safe, efficient, reliable, and environmentally sound manner all equipment associated with power generation.
Learn and demonstrate proficiency, coordinating and maintaining unit availability with AGC, which includes preparation and planning for load reductions/increases based on system demands. Duties require a complete and thorough knowledge of the entire plant operation as it relates to the generation of power.
Learn and demonstrate proficiency utilizing proper operating procedures.
Learn and demonstrate proficiency operating units within environmental and SRP guidelines.
Learn and demonstrate proficiency working with other classifications and work groups as directed by others in the completion of tasks.
Learn and demonstrate proficiency working with and administering the Power Generation Clearance Procedure.
The typical duties are not intended to include all duties that comprise the job content but are intended to illustrate the levels of difficulty of the job. Overlapping of typical duties and responsibilities exists and may occur between classifications.
- Employees may be assigned to perform duties of either higher or lower classifications. Shift work, non-continuous multi-shift, and overtime may be required.
What It Takes To Succeed
Successful completion of all training curriculum defined by the OT program is required. All training, testing, and performance measures must be completed successfully. All training shall be completed within four years from the start date of program but can vary due to work demands. The training program requirements will vary based on business needs.
Training can and will change to meet the needs of the facility. Mandatory Regulatory Training will be completed to comply with SRP policy.

PROGRESSIONARY TRAINING OBJECTIVES
The OT Program is designed to start at the O&M 2 job classification and progress to the OS job classification within four years. Successful completion of the fundamentals portion of the program the trainee will progress between O&M 2 and O&M 2 T/A job classification. After the successful completion of each section of site-specific training requirements the trainee will progress to the next job classification within the OS job family (O&M III, O&M III T/A, OST, OS).
if at any point during the OT program the trainee fails to demonstrate proficiency, continual progress, or is at risk of not achieving competition of the program, the trainee may be subject to disciplinary action. All disciplinary action will be handled be in accordance with SRP's HR 635 - Positive Discipline Policy.
