Job Summary:
The Lead Mechanic provides knowledgeable mechanical maintenance support to maintain and repair electric and steam producing mechanical equipment, and their associated auxiliary components. Performs supervisory duties during absence of the Maintenance Supervisor.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Recognizes safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.
- Knowledgeable of environmental rules and regulations, and effectively apply them to all work situations.
- Demonstrates leadership capabilities and acts as a positive role model, accepts responsibility for crew activities.
- Assists in providing skill enhancement training to personnel in program and training journeymen mechanics.
- Completes written and electronic records (i.e. work orders, calibration sheets, time cards, material requests) required to document the work in progress and as it is completed.
- Knowledge of plant operations, equipment and skill area to prioritize and schedule tasks.
- Pays attention to detail and demonstrates good organizational skills in daily decision-making.
- Employee must arrange own transportation to work location and may be reassigned to another location at the Company's discretion.
Working Conditions:
- Normal office environment and/or out of doors work environment, this could include working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures, and high humidity areas.
- Overtime as required
- Mentally stressful environments: must be able to react to crises where immediate action is required to correct or curtail potentially damaging or hazardous situations.
- Must be prepared to work irregular or rotating shifts and respond to emergency callout 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED
- Ten (10) years' experience (including apprenticeship) of industrial mechanical maintenance experience in the repair, inspection, and/or maintenance of related power plant or machine shop equipment including inspection and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, fabricating and diagnostics.
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required including but not limited to steel-toed boots, respirators, goggles, and safety glasses etc.
- Must be able to discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals.
- Must be able to discern assorted colors
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and listening ability to communicate effectively with management, co-workers, clients, and vendors.
- Ability to use a personal computer and associated software.
- Ability to install, maintain, test, inspect, troubleshoot and repair pumps and valves, bearings and shaft seals, sleeves, seats, and other miscellaneous parts used in generating station equipment.
- Ability to perform preventive and corrective maintenance procedures on mechanical equipment including PdM activities.
