Entry Level
All candidates must have all the following qualifications:
- Prefer to have at least 18 months of electrical experience
- Possess a basic understanding of electricity (both DC and AC)
- Must have an adequate knowledge of electric circuits, circuit testing equipment including fuse boxes, circuit breakers, volt and amp meters, experience working with electricity and energized equipment. This will be determined by passing a technical assessment.
- High School Diploma and a valid driver's license.
- Must achieve a passing score on the EEI aptitude test.
- Must be able to pass basic math exam.
- Must pass Job Sampling Assessment.
- This job requires moderate exertion, often under adverse working conditions. Must be able to demonstrate physical capabilities to perform the duties of the job; and
- Must have a basic knowledge of computers, ability to learn Company specific software and electronic communications systems and devices.
Job Duties:
- Will be introduced to and must complete training for safe operation of a bucket truck at secondary level;
- Inspect, test, check and adjust self-contained single and three phase service a-c watt-hour meters, not exceeding 50 test ampere rating, on circuits not exceeding 300 volts;
- Handle energized conductors, and by-pass load on circuits not exceeding 300 volts, without interrupting service;
- Inspect watt-hour meters and service entrance equipment, and investigate related complaints, on domestic and small commercial installations;
- Verify signal strength on meters read over the air (OTA);
- Read and understand electric prints;
- Inspect watt-hour meters and associated equipment on domestic and small commercial installations, where seals are reported broken by unauthorized or unknown persons; reseal equipment;
- Inspect installations for evidence of diversion and other irregularities and reports all abnormal conditions;
- Work from a ladder or bucket performs all duties necessary to disconnect/reconnect electric services on customer side.
- Performs zero, low usage, and high residential and light commercial bill investigations.
- Reads interval meters.
- Install, change, and remove self-contained single and three phase a-c watt-hour meters and watt-hour demand meters, not exceeding 50 test ampere rating, and load control devices on circuits not exceeding 300 volts;
- Installing, changing, and removing the customer side of single phase service drops, not larger than 1-θ, on circuits not exceeding 300 volts, when qualified and assigned;
- Verify suitability of watt-hour meters and associated equipment assigned to installations;
- Verify customers' metered circuits on meter installations;
- Make incidental changes in wiring associated with meter installations, in connection with inspect, test, install, change, and remove watt-hour meters and load control devices, and related operations;
- Inspect, test, check, program, and repair, in the shop or laboratory, multi-element a-c watt-hour meters; repair connection blocks, test switches, test leads and miscellaneous material; inspect, check, adjust, make repairs, that require an intermediate degree of skill, on component parts of watt-hour meters, and associated equipment; assemble and wire meter panels and temporary meter boxes, of intermediate ratings and complexity;
- Repair self-contained single-phase watt hour meters, perform operations such as: inspect for damage and defects; clean and replace parts; check for operating condition; operate and use conventional types of test boards and test circuits;
- Respond to secondary electric emergency calls as required on circuits not exceeding 300 volts; report findings and make repairs from AES Ohio source to house when qualified to do so;
- Perform all types of service disconnects and reconnects including for customer non-payments on circuits not exceeding 300 volts;
- Be able to accept payment in lieu of disconnecting service on shut-off non-pay orders;
- Performs all work necessary to install, repair, replace, and remove services not exceeding 300 volts;
- Make minor repairs to meter boxes;
- Deliver metering equipment to job sites
- Fill out standard forms, prepare reports and sketches, and perform miscellaneous clerical work as required;
- Access customer account information as required and keeping it confidential; Report hazards identified in the field and correct if qualified; Drive motor vehicle, when assigned;
- Perform equipment inspector duties as needed;
- Perform other similar or less skilled work
- Attend training as assigned;
- Perform Secondary, Overhead (OVH) and Underground (URD), service troubleshooting activities and patrol secondary service line. In storm operations, secondary work must work under direct supervision of a designated qualified employee.
- Locate, inspect and repair secondary cable, on night guard (NL) services, faults using fault finding equipment.
- Install, Inspect, Remove and perform routine maintenance of lighting systems, to include overhead (OVH) and underground (URD) fixtures to engineering standards.
