Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
With minimal supervision, this position is responsible for all aspects of transmission planning functions. Regular duties include running studies to support compliance with applicable NERC Reliability Standards, modeling powerflow, dynamic, and short-circuit data in PSS/E software, performing load and generation addition studies, calculating line impedances and ratings, supporting capital construction projects and forecast, and responding to requests from Southwest Power Pool (SPP) as well as other internal and external customers and regulatory filings. The Transmission Planning Engineer will coordinate planned transmission projects with all stakeholders. The candidate will be involved in all aspects of SPP's Integrated Transmission Planning process. Other responsibilities include maintaining facility rating records and documentation as well as evaluating transmission service and interconnection requests. The candidate will also be required to follow all existing safety rules and procedures.

Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Experience in engineering or equivalent planning and operations experience is preferred.  

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will have proficient knowledge of transmission planning and power systems. Must be proficient in the use of spreadsheets and word processing. Prefer power system simulation software (PSS/E is preferred) experience.  Must be capable of learning to use transmission planning software applications.  Successful candidate must be able to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using good judgment in making adaptations and modifications.  Prefer a working knowledge of the technical environment and all governing regulations, including NERC and SPP Criteria.  Requires the ability to work on a team responsible for projects from the planning through completion phases.  Must have demonstrated good organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others.  Must have excellent teamwork and people skills.  Must have initiative and be a self-starter.

Licenses, Certificates, Bonding and/or Testing:
Must have a valid driver's license. EITs or PEs are preferred, but not required.
