Summary
Spire is seeking a Construction and Maintenance Technician for the Mobile, AL, Operation Center. This position is responsible for performing tasks involving heavy physical labor in the construction and maintenance of the natural gas distribution system. Follows appropriate safety guidelines and uses safe work habits.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates heavy equipment and power tools such as backhoes and jackhammers. Digs ditches or trenches, backfills excavations, and compacts and levels earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
- Signals equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment and materials.
- Cleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. Loads, unloads and identifies materials, machinery and tools and distributes the appropriate locations, according to projects plans and specifications. Erects and dissembles shoring bracing, traffic barricades, ramps and other temporary structures.
- Controls traffic passing near, in and around work zones.
- Locates, measures, marks and records openings and distances to lay our area where construction work will be performed.
- Lubricates, cleans and repairs machinery, equipment and tools.
- All other duties as assigned.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
