he Opportunity
The Construction Technician will be based in Spruce Grove, Alberta and reports to the Construction Manager. This Technician is part of a crew that executes the pipe integrity program in a manner that meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain core operational task qualifications and will be required to perform tasks from other disciplines when business needs require.
What You'll Do
- Plan daily construction activities and provide direction in daily tailgate meetings
- Ensuring all work complies with TransCanada's Operating Procedures and Community, Safety and Environmental Policies
- Plan, arrange support services and supervise multiple levels of ground disturbance complexity inside and out of facilities
- Coordinate and supervise work of subcontractors on site
- Complete accurate daily reporting to the Construction Manager (CM) of the progress of activities you are overseeing.
- Provide well defined timelines for completed tasks
- Support the execution of all phases of pipeline maintenance including integrity digs, re-coating of pipelines, class upgrades, hydro-testing, and other various projects related to pipeline construction
- Maintain excellent crew collaboration and productivity during work activities
- Communicate with the Construction Manager and team members to ensure projects are completed safely, effectively and efficiently
- Perform emergency response activities
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires high school diploma, or equivalency is required (GED)
- High degree of respect for safe work habits
- Ability to read and interpret pipeline drawings, one call clearances and project specific drawings
- Proven experience safely and effectively performing physically demanding labor duties as required
- 2+ years of related pipeline / facility construction and/or maintenance experience in the Oil and Gas industry
- Computer proficiency (Windows: Word, Excel & Outlook)
- Experience working with high pressure natural gas
- Ground Disturbance Level II (GDII) training
Preferred Qualifications
- API 1169
- MAPP certification
This position requires candidates to:
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
- Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review
- Travel often (95%) to support construction activities in other company locations which will require overnight stays away from home and may be for long duration
- Work a modified work schedule (9 days on/5 days off)
- Be subject to overtime, extended work hours and work weeks, and callouts as needed
