DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Manager IT PMO, the IT Project Leader is primarily responsible for leading, planning and executing IT projects and programs to achieve business goals. The IT Project Leader will lead and supervise project activities, people and resources. They will exercise independent decision making responsibilities to ensure that the scope, schedule, and budget goals are met while delivering a quality product and adhering to current IT PMO Project Delivery methodologies, frameworks, and governance. The role is required to independently make decisions that will influence the project's activities and direction, such as assigning and reviewing project tasks, resource management within the scope of the project, mitigating risks, resolving issues and will act as the Stakeholder's main point of contact for the project. The IT Project Leader's decision will determine the outcome of IT projects and their decisions will inform Fortis policies for future projects.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILIES INCLUDE (but not limited to):
Make decisions that will define project scope (including staffing scope), goals, policies and deliverables, that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders
Create and execute project plans, revising as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements of the project
Create and manage project budget, including tracking and reporting team hours, and forecasting project capital and operating expenditures
Lead, coach, and motivate project resources (internal and contract) by providing supervisory level support to take accountability for their assigned work and successfully deliver on project goals
Effectively apply IT PMO methodology and enforce project standards and governance including the review and approval of project artifacts
Effectively communicate project expectations to project team and stakeholders (including Senior Management) in a timely and clear fashion
Conduct project lessons learned throughout the life of the project and provide recommendations to identify successful and unsuccessful project elements
Lead resource capacity planning and assess need for additional resources to support successful project delivery
Collaborate with Managers and Project Leaders to make crucial decision that will impact the business when necessary
Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team
Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path
Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations
Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and devise contingency plans
Minimize and mitigate project risks and issues; resolve or escalate issues in a timely fashion
Create an environment of stability through consistent communication of expectations and opportunities
Engage and influence vendors to ensure program and project delivery and success
Utilize knowledge gained in projects to influence Fortis policies and best practices going forward
Independently make decisions to leverage opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and deepen stakeholder relationships
Regularly participate in project health checks to ensure quality and identify opportunities for improvement and constructive suggestions for change
Participate and assist in the establishment and execution of an IT program and project management framework
Work closely with program sponsors to determine program/project scope and vision that aligns with organizational strategic goals, and to set the direction of future organizational strategic goals.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Well-versed in accounting practices as it relates to project delivery
Effective organizational and time management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and competing demands with tight timelines
Exemplary verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present information to various audiences in both formal and informal settings
Proven ability to work and lead within a team environment; this includes effective leadership, coaching, facilitation, mentoring, and team building skills.
Customer service focus with the proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with team members and internal and external stakeholders
Ability to build effective partnerships with all levels of employees through intuitive business insight and personal credibility; this includes the ability to make recommendations and influence outcomes

Demonstrated initiative in recognizing opportunities for improvements and efficiency with a willingness to challenge status quo
Skilled in the use of Microsoft SharePoint MS SharePoint On line, SAP for Financials. MS Teams, and Office 365
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Commerce, Business Administration, or related discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience with application development project lifecycles, methodologies, and deliverables
Experience with financial applications modules of SAP
Have obtained or are working towards obtaining Project Management designation (PMP, PRINCE2, ACP or equivalent)
Leadership experience would be considered an asset.
Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably within the electrical utility industry, would be an asset
