The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering, with a specific emphasis on geotechnical analysis within the nuclear sector. Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing advance engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct geotechnical investigations and analyses specific to nuclear facility requirements.
- Ensure compliance with NRC regulations and standards while delivering effective engineering solutions.
- Investigate alternative analysis methodologies to address complex geotechnical challenges.
- Perform civil-based design reviews, including but not limited to:
- Flooding analysis
- Seismic analysis
- Support Nuclear Early Site Permits (ESP) and related nuclear development activities, including:
- Geotechnical reviews, civil cost estimating, and site optimization for boring locations
- Provide early site development civil support as needed in the western service territory
- Additional support for other New Generation projects (Gas and Renewables) as workload permits.
- Assess the impacts of engineering analyses on downstream events and conditions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to address engineering challenges and regulatory inquiries.
- Maintain a questioning attitude to foster innovation and improvement in engineering practices.
- Preferred geological experience of US east region, with a focus on Appalachia.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.
- Minimum of six to eight (6-8) years of relevant experience in civil and geotechnical engineering.
- Strong understanding of nuclear engineering processes, rules, and regulations.
- Familiarity with flooding and seismic analysis as it pertains to NRC Requests for Additional Information (RAIs).
- Proven ability to adapt to a variety of engineering assignments and challenges.
- Strong analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Has typically acquired 8 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 6 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's or PhD in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*. Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is preferred.*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology.
Acceptable alternative is:
a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
