SUMMARY:
Manages the Payroll and Accounts Payable functions for PNM Resources, PNM and other subsidiaries. Responsible for assuring all employees¿ pay is timely, accurate, and in accordance with federal and state laws. Responsible for ensuring that all vendors are paid accurately and timely with the objective of maximizing cash flow and minimizing late payments to vendors. Evaluates processes and leads efforts of process re-design that will maximize efficient use of resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Enforces policies and procedures established by human resources that pertain to payroll
Assists in the development of new policies as requested
Sets priorities and provides direction, supervision, instruction and advice on all activities related to Accounts Payable and Payroll functions
Establishes and monitors appropriate internal controls related to accounting information
Actively participates in business process improvement efforts
Evaluates new software packages and functions as accounting lead for implementation
Responsible for ensuring that W-2s are completed accurately and filed in a timely manner
Responsible for reviewing all accounts payable and payroll reconciliations on at minimum a quarterly basis
Monitors O&M and capital budgets and actuals and participates in quarterly earnings reforecast
Ensures that department goals are being met and reports monthly statistics in board book
Coordinates and maintains open communication with a broad range of individuals and organizations whose participation is critical to the overall effectiveness of the closing process
Actively participates in industry-wide benchmarking activities with associations to identify cost improvements, best practices, and economies of scale opportunities
Maintains and develops key networks and liaisons with other utilities on an ongoing basis
COMPETENCIES:
Must possess good leadership and interpersonal skills
Strong accounting and analytical skills including knowledge of payroll laws and regulations, accounting concepts, and internal control requirements
Experience required in business process improvements, managing resources to meet goals across multiple projects, and leading multidiscipline, high-performance work teams and/or groups
Demonstrated competencies in strategic thinking and leadership, relationship management, developing efficient solutions to diverse and complex business problems, project management, and group leadership dynamics
Ingenuity is required in identifying, formulating, and recommending viable alternatives and negotiating acceptable solutions
Must be able to apply multiple disciplines such as economics, finance, accounting, administration and management to the general business planning, management, and accountability processes
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree with an accounting concentration from a four-year college or university with five to seven years¿ related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
CPA preferred.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Responsible for employee development and performance management skills.
