JOB OVERVIEW
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of General Machinist
Reporting to the Trades Management Supervisor-Maintenance, this position is responsible for production-machining operations to specifications on a variety of materials. Assignments are typically of a critical, non-routine nature. Work is completed under the limited direction and/or guidance of the machine shop supervisor.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Set up and operate equipment such as lathes, drills, and milling machines.
- Determine and prepare and jigs or special attachments needed.
- Read and interpret blueprints or drawings necessary to complete assignments. Prepare own layouts.
- Use micrometers, vernier calipers and other precision measuring tools to ensure in-process or that finished product matches specified tolerances.
- Perform maintenance and cleanup of work area.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 or equivalent and successful completion of an 8000hr apprenticeship in General Machining
- Possess a General Machinist Certificate of Qualification (Red Seal Machinists)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience as a General Machinist
- Have the ability to set up and use jigs, fixtures (collets), arbors, mandrels, centers, clamps.
- Fluent with creating programs on Fanuc control on both CNC Milling Machines and Lathes
- Work to tolerances within .001 inch.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprint drawings
