Type:
Full time
Category:
Electrical engineer
Description

POSITION PURPOSE

Provide advanced-level analysis and strategy development to implement and maintain systems, production, distribution, and utilization of electric energy for domestic, commercial, and industrial consumption while increasing systems analysis responsibilities and continuing to develop knowledge of industry regulations and issues. Manage less complex or low-risk projects through in-depth analysis, specification development, and testing. Provide a broad knowledge of appropriate practices and procedures. Assignments have clear and specified objectives and require the investigation of a limited number of variables.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with cross-functional stakeholders on various projects from a planning and distribution engineering perspective.
  • Provides engineering leadership and electric planning support for key initiatives, including grid modernization and voltage conversions, resiliency enhancements, customer electrification efforts, and planning with a conductor of the grid approach.
  • Creates electric distribution system engineering analysis models independently. Understands how to apply complex and dynamic modelling concepts and applications.
  • Uses iterative modeling techniques to improve existing analysis methodology, and identifies new modeling and analytic methods.
  • Uses the Synergi Electric engineering analysis software for radial and low voltage network circuit applications including load flows, voltage studies, short circuit and fault current analysis, customer load growth, and contingency studies. Makes recommendations to mitigate any adverse effects on the system.
  • Performs engineering reviews and electric distribution system impact studies for renewable and conventional (DER) interconnections. Provides distribution engineering project management oversight for utility scale DER interconnections.
  • Uses PSCAD software to perform electromagnetic transient (EMT) analyses on the distribution system, including the study DERs and their interaction with the electric system.
  • Performs fault current studies with minimal oversight, including providing arc flash studies.
  • Performs system protection studies (protection coordination with fuses, reclosers, substation breakers) with minimal oversight. Provides planning guidance to engineering on distribution automation device placement and schemes. Provides innovative planning support for new protection device technologies in the form of pilots and advanced applications.
  • Collaborates effectively with American Transmission Company (ATC) on various planning functions including DER interconnections, system impedance models, and electric capacity planning.
  • Analyzes, designs, and manages projects to include, but not limited to, performing the necessary research, planning, and analysis to determine a project's scope, objectives, and requirements and coordinates and/or performs the required design, testing, and implementation tasks. Manages all aspects of a project's life cycle, including project management, methodology, and personnel and ensures it is done on time, is within budget, and accomplishes its objectives. Communicates with end users for direction and guidance.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned and requested. Provides research and recommendations for improvements of existing systems.
