POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Corporate Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the accounting department's operations, including accounting close processes and assists in financial statement preparation, compliance with regulatory requirements, and implementing accounting policies and procedures. This role will collaborate with other departments, provide strategic financial insights, and lead the team to achieve organizational goals while maintaining operational efficiency and financial integrity.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as accounting standards and corporate policies.
- Manages the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Summarizes actual operating results for senior management.
- Oversees the preparation and compliance of Federal Energy Regulation Commission (FERC) filings.
- Coordinates with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process.
- Accounting Operations:
- Directs accounting managers and staff in the general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, regulatory accounting, and property accounting.
- Implements and maintains robust internal controls to safeguard Company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Oversees month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Leadership and Team Management:
- Manages, mentors, and develops a high-performing accounting team, including staff accountants and other accounting professionals.
- Provides training and development opportunities for team members, ensuring they remain current with industry standards and best practices.
- Sets performance goals and conducts regular performance reviews to ensure continuous improvement.
- Strategic Planning and Process Improvement:
- Participates in the development and execution of the organization's financial strategy.
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives within the accounting department.
- Leads the implementation of new accounting systems, tools, or technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Works closely with other departments to ensure alignment between accounting and business goals.
- Provides financial guidance and support for key decision-makers across the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation preferred.
- Master's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8 to10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least five years in a management role.
- Proficiency in accounting software and systems.
- Strong background with relevant financial regulations and accounting standards.
