Job Description Summary

This position ensures quality and timely service to all customers (external and internal) within Canada.  The District Service Engineer position serves as the primary B&W customer contact for Field Engineering Service activities and technical support in general within the designated region.  This position also contributes to developing and meeting financial and absorption targets or goals.

Specific Duties

Team/Personnel Oversight:

  • Has supervisory responsibilities for service engineers and support staff which includes training, career development, quality assurance for work performed and performance appraisals.
  • Assigns and directs activities of field engineers within District, obtaining good utilization of personnel.
  • Has district management responsibility for manpower utilization, expense control, contract cost, revenue and profit generation and business development.
  • Continuously coaches service engineer on improving job performance and preparing them for career advancement.
  • Assist in recruitment and hiring of new engineers and office personnel.
  • Develops and maintains a dedicated and motivated work force by means consistent with Company policy and within the salary budget guidelines.

Technical Guidance:

  • Responsible for oversight of the Field Engineering team in commissioning new equipment and servicing of existing equipment from all B&W product lines. 
  • Handles technical problems and helps identify design modifications and/or upgrades which will benefit customer's operations.
  • Responsible for all field managed contract and service contract performance.
  • Has oversight responsibility for all field service proposals and contracts within the region including proposal development, pricing, performance, profitability, cost collection, etc.

Contract Management:

  • For new equipment installations, sees that performance guarantees, warranties and contractual obligations are met.

Internal Coordination:

  • Coordinates internal activities with Sales, Engineering, Project Management and Construction to ensure contract schedules are met.
  • Assists Sales in marketing and calling on customers and helping them to determine requirements for replacement components, new equipment, modifications, and in selecting B&W products and services to improve their operation.
  • Provides constructive feedback on technical, commercial and management issues that impact the quality of our products and service or our ability to sell same.

Customer Relationship Building:

  • Fosters the attitude that our primary business is customer satisfaction through timely and quality service.
  • Develops personal contact with plant and mill managers and engineering personnel.
  • Handles customer relations related to services and/or equipment provided by B&W.

Qualifications

Education and/or Relevant Experience

Bachelor's degree in Engineering.  Minimum 7 years' experience, with at least 5 years' field service, proven ability to perform mechanical/electrical engineering activities, experience managing field and or engineering employees.
