Job Summary
Team Lead Tax Accountant is responsible for performing and supervising activities related to components of the income tax function of the utilities and non-regulated entities. This includes overseeing certain tax research activities, income tax provisions, tax depreciation, audit defense, special projects and assisting with tax planning. This role mentors and develops individual contributing tax accountants.

- Supervises activities associated with the preparation and maintenance of tax records, returns, reports and other related materials including accounting for income taxes and tax depreciation.
- Analyzes and reviews data to determine accuracy and to identify tax issues and opportunities.
- Leads the implementation of tax planning opportunities.
- Recommends alternative tax treatments to alleviate or reduce tax burden.
- Advocates for tax positions with governmental agencies.
- Leads the review, interpretation, and analysis of tax legislation.
- Assists with external audits.
- Uses judgment to Identify and analyze tax risk.
- Works closely with other business units to determine potential tax implications of current projects.
- Trains and mentors staff and supports the development of policy and procedures for tax processes.
- Engages in other duties as needed that support our Values and help deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree Emphasis in accounting or related area Required
- Master's or Advanced Degree Emphasis in tax or accounting Preferred
- Certification Certified Public Accountant certification Preferred
Required Experience
- 5 years technical and/or professional experience in a tax related area
Preferred Experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in tax law and accounting principles, including ASC 740 accounting for income taxes.
- Proficiency in tax depreciation methods and calculations, including concepts specific to the utility industry.
- Ability to perform tax research and document positions taken.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., Microsoft Excel, PowerPlan and PowerTax or equivalent)
