Under minimal Supervision, performs maintenance, and repairs to ensure optimum efficiency and safety on all company cars, trucks, cranes, tractors, fork trucks, trenching equipment, trailers and portable air compressors to include various hydraulically operated equipment and/or devices.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
Performs varied tasks and projects directly related to craft trade. Gathers and analyzes relevant information to develop and implement the best course of action to ensure job is successfully completed in a safe manner. Often works under minimal or no supervision. Resolves most questions and problems, and refers only the most complex issues to higher level. Resolves problems through mastery of craft, trade knowledge and principles. Follows established Operating Procedures, Operating Practices and Approved Work Methods to accomplish requirements of job. Possesses career level knowledge to successfully perform job.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
All other duties as assigned.
Diagnoses and repairs various types of Conventional and electronic ignition systems to include emission systems as mandated by State and Federal Laws, electrical components of transportation and power operated equipment (e.g., gauges, lighting equipment, remote start/stop and throttle control devices, R-12 and 134A air conditioning systems).
Changes hydraulic components of aerial platforms, digger, derricks, cranes, and power operated equipment.
Attends Mechanical and Hydraulic Technical Schools to stay informed on new technologies and industry standards.
Diagnoses, repairs and/or rebuilds various types of starting and electrical generating devices, steering systems on all types of transportation and power operated equipment, suspension systems on all cars, trucks, tractors, trailers and power operated equipment, and drive shafts on various types of transportation and power operated equipment.
Diagnoses, repairs and/or rebuilds to factory specifications: Mechanical, Electric, Hydraulic, and Air Brake Systems to include various types of fuel systems, including computerized carburetors and fuel injection.
REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma/GED and Certificate of completion in an Automotive Technology program; Or
Associate's Degree in Automotive Technology; Or 2 years tire/lube service experience, and
5 years Mechanic experience at a full service repair facility which includes diesel and hydraulic repairs; Or
5 years Military related training and experience (e.g., Army-Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic - 91B, Artillery Mechanic - 91P, Marine Corps-Engineer Equipment Mechanic - MOS 1341).
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must progress through the apprentice program with in the specified timelines as defined by the apprentice program.
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with DOT certification required within 90 days.
Must possess a basic set of mechanics tools, including some standard and metric sockets, adjustable wrenches, hammers, some standard combination wrenches, and a basic toolbox to house tools.
Maintains or obtain all required certifications (e.g., ASE automotive brakes, ASE or MACS mobile refrigeration, ASE air brakes, ASE preventative maintenance, etc.).
Exposed to extreme conditions and inclement weather.
May be required to operate motor vehicle safely in all traffic, weather and light conditions.
May be required to travel throughout company offices or work sites on a frequent basis.
Required to work non-standard work schedules to including rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, on-call and call-outs.
