Summary:
Responsible for safety program development, management and adherence for large construction projects utilizing contractors on high-voltage transmission line and substations. Responsible for development of project-specific safety plans, safety orientation materials, internal project team safety training, self-performing field-based safety inspections and coordinating others in performing project safety inspections. Provides project teams with guidance on health and safety and confirms that project sites fulfill industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations. Responsible for performing, analyzing and communicating field safety inspection results and trends, leading and participating in safety meetings, initiating safety standdowns, ensuring compliance standards and contractor adherence to project safety plans and specifications, and general oversight of contractor safety performance. Collaborates with project teams in project development, crafting project execution plans, formulating construction contracting strategies, and assisting in contractor selection.
Total Rewards:
A typical starting range for this position is $139,000 - $191,000 + annually. Knowledge, skills and abilities include, but are not limited to:
- Knowledge of high-voltage transmission systems.
- Knowledge of construction and contractor management of electrical transmission facilities.
- Knowledge of safety requirements, industry governances, codes, and other standards that apply to the construction and maintenance of electrical transmission facilities.
- Knowledge of engineering design documentation and ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, materials, contracts, and other related documentation.
- Skilled at effective communications to both technical and leadership levels. Skills must include good interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication skills and ability to understand information and ideas as presented.
- Skill in using personal computers and related software for word processing, presentations, building spreadsheets, and interfacing with Outlook functions.
- Skill in developing and delivering effective presentations.
- Ability to ensure compliance with contract terms, policies and procedures.
- Ability to plan, organize, prioritize time/workload to meet deadlines.
- Ability to build and maintain effective work relationships, both internal and external, and establish credibility with business partners.
- Ability and responsibility to work safely alone and with others while following GRE safety rules, certifications and procedures.
- Ability and responsibility to ensure security procedures are followed including immediate notification of potential incidents.
- Ensure employees and contractors are aware of and adhere to security processes and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education & experience
Knowledge acquired through a bachelor's or master's degree in occupational safety and health, engineering or a related field AND at least 6 years of experience in the high-voltage electrical utility industry
OR
a two-year technical degree in occupational safety and health, engineering, civil technology, or related field AND at least 10 years of experience in the high-voltage electrical utility industry.
