JOB SUMMARY

The Senior Communications Copywriter & Creative Lead is responsible for maintaining the quality, tone, and accuracy of EPB's marketing, advertising, and corporate communications. This role ensures that messaging aligns with business objectives and brand strategy across internal (employee) and external (business & residential) audiences.

Beyond exceptional writing skills, this position plays a leadership role in concept development, strategic messaging, and creative direction, ensuring high-quality content across all marketing channels including advertising collateral, websites, videos, digital and social media, intranet updates, company newsletters, and presentations. The ideal candidate will inspire, motivate, and guide other creatives while driving innovative storytelling that enhances EPB's brand presence.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development of original, strategic concepts and compelling copy that aligns with project objectives and EPB's brand voice.
  • Partner closely with designers, video producers, and project managers to develop cohesive, integrated campaigns.
  • Guide the team in big-picture creative strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and audience needs.
  • Present ideas and campaigns to internal stakeholders, championing creative decisions with clarity and confidence.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and creative best practices to elevate content and storytelling.
  • Independent thinker who can own an assignment and write with little direction.
  • Craft engaging, high-quality copy for a variety of mediums, including digital, print, video, social media, and internal communications.
  • Ensure all messaging is compelling, accurate, and brand-aligned, maintaining consistency in tone, voice, and style.
  • Develop strategic messaging frameworks that resonate with B2B and B2C audiences.
  • Proactively research market trends, audience insights, and competitive positioning to inform creative direction.
  • Uphold brand guidelines and contribute to refining brand messaging as needed.
  • Generate copy with minimal changes.
  • Work closely with executive leadership, marketing, product teams, and external partners to develop impactful storytelling.
  • Provide creative input on campaign themes, taglines, and brand narratives that align with EPB's mission.
  • Contribute to creative brainstorming sessions, offering innovative ideas and solutions.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive team culture that encourages growth and creativity.
  • Provide guidance and constructive feedback to copywriters, designers, and content creators.
  • Review copy created by other team members, ensuring high-quality standards. Grow within the role to approve copy and messaging of others in the department.
  • Help establish best practices and processes for content development and creative workflow.
  • Assist in onboarding new team members and fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in copywriting, content strategy, or creative direction in an in-house marketing team or ad agency.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with designers, video producers, and digital teams.
  • Strong background in B2B and B2C marketing, with a proven track record of delivering effective campaigns.
  • Exceptional storytelling and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Experience working within a regulated industry (utilities, telecom, or energy) is a plus but not required.

CERTIFICATION(S) & OTHER REQUIREMENTS  

  • Strong strategic thinking and big-picture vision.
  • Confidence in presenting ideas and selling creative concepts to leadership.
  • Ability to mentor, inspire, and elevate team members' work.
  • Deep understanding of brand positioning, voice, and messaging strategy.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills preferred.
  • Ability to balance creativity with business strategy preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership qualities and a passion for innovation preferred.
