JOB SUMMARY

The Quantum Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the enhancement, programming and maintenance of the EPB quantum network. This role will assist the quantum systems manager in overseeing hardware and software vendors related to quantum networking products, as well as working with other technical support staff within EPB. The position requires experience and expertise in telecommunications, programming, project management, field deployments, and customer relations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the enhancement of the EPB quantum network, focusing on reducing optical losses, optimizing network control and applications, integrating high-speed automatic polarization control devices, and facilitating the incorporation of new quantum components through collaboration with industry experts.
  • Assist with the expansion of the quantum network infrastructure to deploy and integrate additional quantum data centers into the network.
  • Broaden the scope of the EPB quantum network by investigating long-range connections to other regional and national quantum networks.
  • Showcase the effectiveness of quantum protection cybersecurity technology on EPB's electric system by implementing automated monitoring for real-time performance data collection and enhance network design software to support new applications in grid resiliency and quantum security.
  • Manage projects with cross-functional teams to implement, install, configure, and provide technical support for the quantum network architecture.
  • Provide after-hours support to maintain the operation and service levels of quantum networking systems - available 24/7/365.
  • Clearly communicate and present technical information to both technical team members and employees in other departments who may not be familiar with quantum networking terminology. Develop experimental setups to investigate and test theoretical models in quantum physics.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in a related technical field is preferred, and/or 2+ years of experience with quantum networks.
  • US citizenship is required.
  • Industry certifications related to specific technical areas are preferred.
  • Proficient in computer programming (Python, Visual Studio C/C++, etc.).
  • Proficient skills in security implementation around various compliance regulations and risk management.
  • Proficient skills in routing, switching, firewalls, and protocols skills.
  • Complex quantum network issues resolution skills.
  • Proficient quantum networking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles. Must be insurable under the company's insurance policy.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a critical degree of accuracy used to manage complex systems.
  • A self-starter, able to work assigned tasks with minimal direction, and be able to think independently.
  • Ability to critically assess the results of tasks and directed checks to ensure successful outcomes.
