The Quantum Systems Physicist will contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of quantum physics. This position involves designing and conducting experiments, operating complex scientific equipment, writing research papers and proposals, and mentoring students and collaborators. The Quantum Systems Physicist will serve as a company representative to multiple organizations across industry, academia, and government research institutions, leading collaborative efforts to advance quantum technologies for real-world applications benefiting both our community and the organization.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop experimental setups to investigate and test theoretical models in quantum physics.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data to refine or create new theoretical frameworks.
- Utilize specialized instruments, such as Superconducting Nano-wire Single Photon Detectors, lasers, and beamsplitters, to support experimental research and ensure
- proper maintenance and calibration.
- Write and publish research papers detailing quantum network experimental findings and operational capabilities.
- Present research results at scientific conferences and symposia to engage with the broader scientific community.
- Prepare research proposals for submission to government agencies, academic institutions, and other funding bodies to secure financial support for ongoing and future projects.
- Mentor students and researchers, providing guidance on experimental techniques, data analysis, and research methodologies.
- Collaborate with broader industry research teams , contributing expertise to multi-faceted projects.
- Investigate and develop solutions for quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum-enhanced sensing.
- Contribute to the design and execution of research projects focused on novel quantum information technologies.
- Lead R&D initiatives and collaborate with both internal teams and external partners to achieve successful outcomes.
- Contribute to the development and maturation of EPB's Quantum Systems.
- Design, prototype, and demonstrate new technologies for practical applications in quantum systems.
- Author technical reports and proposals for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Represent the organization in public forums, delivering technical presentations and discussing research results with national and international audiences.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Graduate degree in Physics, Optics, Computer Science, or a directly related field. Ph.D. preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in experimental quantum information research post graduate degree.
- 3+ years of experience in quantum information research at an institution, industry, or government laboratory preferred.
- A sustained publication record in national and/or international peer-reviewed journals preferred.
- Demonstrated independent research competence with significant contributions to the field. Preferred.
- Experience with applied research and development in quantum technologies, particularly chip-integrated photonics or free-space optical systems preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS & OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in state of residence and demonstrate safe and responsible operation of motor vehicles. Must be insurable under the company's insurance policy.
- US citizenship is required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, presentation, and time management skills.
- A self-starter, able to work assigned tasks with minimal direction, and be able to think independently.
- Received a "Meets Expectations" or higher overall rating on the last annual performance appraisal and no disciplinary actions (verbal or written) during previous appraisal period.
