Job Summary
To oversee the design and planning of the distribution system, ensuring a reliable, efficient, and safe electrical system.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and oversee the Performance Management of all employees in the department including, setting goals, providing feedback, completing performance appraisals, administering wage and salary adjustments and training.
- Oversee the team’s projects, jobs, customer choice methods of service, sectionalizing studies and overall system design to ensure quality and provide feedback.
- Foster a technically advanced work environment with an engaging team atmosphere focused on member satisfaction
- Review and create clear policies, procedures, departmental goals, and technical benchmarks to further promote organizational efficiency
- Oversee the planning, construction and operation of transmission lines, distribution systems, and equipment for transmitting power from distribution points to consumers.
- Monitor the performance and reliability of the distribution system to ensure adequate load required by consumers.
- Form a plan for Departmental and System growth and prepare the Departmental budget and capital projects to align with the overall plan.
- Ensure the department complies with RUS standards and oversee the completion of necessary documentation, surveys, etc.
- Oversee the review and inspection of newly constructed distribution facilities.
- Partner with the System Control team to ensure the reliable operation and utilization of the SCADA and OMS systems.
- Oversee and coordinate with GTC on Substation planning and costs
- Review and approve short and long-range system forecasts and planning studies.
- Assist in the development of retail electric rates, financial forecasts, and the annual Division budget.
- Oversee lighting design projects and the overall lighting process
- Promote innovation and growth in distribution technologies (distribution automation, distributed generation, etc.) and spearhead suitable initiatives while overseeing technical support for existing distributed generation programs
- Leads the department’s support of service restoration efforts during emergency outages.
- Provide leadership consistent w/ the Safety program and corporate safety goals.
- Collaborate with leaders and team members of other departments to ensure we are working to achieve common goals
- Engage in external industry organizations and build a solid network of industry partners
- Engage with members and the community when necessary to ensure superior customer service
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required.
- P.E. Certification required.
- Ten (10) years’ experience in distribution planning and coordination.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse group of personnel and job functions.
- Previous EMC experience highly preferred.
- Superior interpersonal skills to respond to common inquiries or complaints from consumers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
- Proven presentation skills.
- Able to apply mathematics in the analysis of data such as logarithms, quadratic equations, and statistics.
- Able to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, equations, graphs, etc) in its most difficult forms.
- Able to apply the principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Able to obtain Georgia ITS Operator certification.
- Must satisfactorily pass the EMC's employment physical examination and required drug screens.
- Requires a valid Georgia driver's license.
