Electrical Engineering Internship - PJM Fossil Central Engineering (Allentown, PA)
The Talen Energy PJM Fossil Central Engineering Support team is seeking an electrical engineering intern student for summer 2025. The intern will be a temporarily employed full-time college student in an accredited four-year institution of higher learning, who is offered a program designed to give college students practical work experience in their field of study. This program often helps students determine career interests. Beyond the scope of the actual tasks performed, the student becomes familiar with a corporate environment and gains practical skills and knowledge to supplement their classroom experience. Reporting to Talen Energy's Fossil Central Engineering group, the electrical engineering intern will have the opportunity to work with seasoned professionals as part of existing engineering projects and emergent work, as well as work independently on some tasks. The position will involve both power plant field and office work. The intern's primary work location will be Talen's office in Allentown PA. Work on projects may involve day travel or possibly overnight travel as far east as Talen's Martins Creek plant (Bangor, PA) as far north as the Susquehanna plant (Berwick, PA), as far west as the Montour plant (Washingtonville, PA) and as far south as the Wagner plant (Baltimore, MD).
In this position, the individual will support several different electrical engineering projects across Talen's fleet of power plants.
Activities will involve plant walk-downs, reviewing drawings, meeting with vendors, and working with experienced engineers to develop specs and project plans for upcoming outages at Talen's plants. The intern will also be involved in condition assessment for plant equipment and will gain exposure through participation in emergent equipment issues. Talen is looking to establish a fleet approach to inspections, analysis, and data storage; and the electrical engineering intern will have the opportunity to contribute to this effort in a substantial way.
The Talen Energy intern will operate in a team environment applying interpersonal, communications, and technical skills and knowledge, and demonstrating leadership qualities.
