Job Summary
The Generator Engineer provides subject matter expertise for the Vistra generation fleet. The position will primarily be responsible for the large power generators but other duties may be assigned to support plant excitation, motors, and electrical systems. The position provides engineering analysis and market driven options for issues throughout the entire asset life cycle. The engineer is involved in industry user groups and forums and brings industry leading ideas back to Vistra. The engineer supports short- and long-range budget planning and execution. The engineer communicates effectively with all levels within the Vistra organization and with external resources and contacts.Job Description
Key Accountabilities
- Support generator inspection and testing during planned and unplanned outages.
- Analyze generator or equipment trends, historical data, and field data to develop and implement measurable programs to obtain the lowest life cycle cost on plant equipment
- Maintain Vistra's asset preservation program which supports long-range planning for maintenance and reliability.
- Recognize, document, and prevent potential generator failure modes.
- Apply engineering theory, practices, and principles to determine root cause of generator and equipment failures and to perform performance evaluations
- Coordinate with in-house engineering, equipment specialists and operation's site staff to ensure consistent, practical, and effective engineering solutions
- Identify and qualify outside resources (repair, engineering, maintenance, construction) generator maintenance or support needs
- Represent Engineering Services and on corporate, technical, and user group committees
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in one or more of the following: power generation operations, maintenance repair and/or engineering.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, creative problem solving and team building
- High level of expertise in MS Office suite
- Bachelor of Science in an accredited Electrical Engineering program or 10 years of experience
- Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
- Demonstrated ability consistent with the job's key accountabilities
