The Opportunity
The MAOP Records Verification Team is seeking a Junior Engineer or Technologist to join the broader Regulatory and Special Programs Group. This team collaborates closely with various Pipeline Integrity and Operational Teams to maintain the Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) across the US natural gas network, with a current focus is on supporting ongoing Mega Rule efforts to ensure safe and reliable pipeline operations while meeting key regulatory requirements and milestones.
Reporting to the Team Lead, MAOP Records Verification, this position will be responsible for conducting MAOP records verification, MAOP change management, support regulatory inspections and audits, develop and maintain verification approaches, and program management of any special projects associated with MAOP.
What you'll do
- Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, pressure test documents, construction as-builts, and other technical records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with 49 CFR 192.619.
- Collaborate closely with the Regulatory and Special Programs Team to ensure key MAOP verification milestones for the Mega Rule are met, following 49 CFR 192.624.
- Provide technical support to internal stakeholders for the review of applicable records and management of MAOP and its related pipeline attributes and testing requirements.
- Analyze moderately complex situations using regulatory knowledge, technical judgment, and engineering understanding.
- Compile and verify data for regulatory audits and inspections, maintaining compliance and addressing any regulatory concerns or queries.
- Enhance and maintain TC Energy processes and procedures to comply with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve data discrepancies, improving the reliability of information used in Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) annual reporting.
- Work closely with Pipe Integrity, Integrity Engineering, Class, HCA/MCA, Commercial Operations, and Regulatory Compliance through Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
- Assist in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and implementation of new MAOP verification tool technologies, ensuring required functions for the MAOP verification process are as expected.
- Provide Operational support where required to the varied TC Gas businesses
- Support external customer requests for MAOP information.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent technologist experience.
- 1-2 years of related industry experience.
- Basic background in pipeline integrity, design, construction, maintenance, and repair.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with a willingness to support team objectives.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports.
- Proficiency with engineering software and other data-related tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Eligibility to be registered as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or a Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards such as CFR 192 and ASME B31.8.
- Experience with MAOP verification processes and related regulatory requirements.
- Ability to make decisions where only general policies and procedures are available, requiring application of engineering principles coupled with judgement and independent action.
- Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
This position requires candidates to
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
- Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home (estimated up to 10% of work schedule)
- Travel across borders and as such, the candidate must be able to provide applicable documentation to this effect
