Job Summary
The Manager Project Management Gas Distribution Construction is responsible for leading the Project Management efforts of the Gas Distribution Construction teams in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia operating territories. This position is accountable for all aspects of project life cycle management, including accurate budgeting and forecasting, combined with effective planning and execution. The Manager requires proactive leadership to integrate and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. Included are Project Management, Project Engineering, Project Controls, Construction Managers, Operations, Communications, Supply Chain and the other groups within NiSource. This person requires highly developed organizational, leadership, communication and technical skills. The Manager will staff, plan, direct, control, and be responsible for the project management and control of assigned projects to ensure the desired success criteria is achieved.

Essential Functions

  • Displays leadership and support to provide a safe work environment.

  • Promotes consistency across the Gas Distribution Construction footprint from a process and collaborate perspective.
  • Applies, and advances Project Management and Project Controls capability and competence using industry standards and best practices application to integrate knowledge areas for optimum project delivery.
  • Follows industry standard principles in the project life cycle including project development, engineering, construction, testing, turnover and technical support.
  • Manages Project Managers utilizing and enforcing PMI and PMBOK standards and systems.
  • Defines and administers staffing resources required to effectively manage and control Gas Distribution Construction projects and/or programs.
  • Manages staff to help develop project estimates, budgets, preliminary schedules, risk identification, and scope.
  • Ensures organization and oversight on the management and control of projects by working closely with the project controls and scheduling departments.
  • Coordinates business planning Asset Management processes with Engineering and Operations to ensure that utilization of the company's assets are maximized
  • Provides strategic guidance and timely information to project teams for balanced decision-making in regard to risks and execution.
  • Provides timely, relevant and quantifiable information to the state Construction Leadership (Directors and Managers) to assist them with balanced decision-making regarding project management and/or financial opportunities.
  • Ensures scope planning, requirements management, and scope definition is complete.
  • Ensures optimum use of Work Breakdown Structure and Cost Account management methodology to establish integrated project baseline development, and integrated scope change control methods.
  • Develops and applies performance metrics to monitor the progress of projects, including the identification and reporting of project performance challenges and risks.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for life cycle project change control to prevent scope creep or degradation of quality.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for projects that are selected to be bid by working with supply chain and contractors to develop bid documents, bid schedule, and obtain pricing from contractors.
  • Provides leadership and oversight regarding project start up, test, and abandonment plans.
  • Supports preparation of various reports (i.e., financial, reallocation, reconciliation, forecasting, accruals, updates, etc.)
  • Supports the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP).
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, construction management, project management, or other related field plus 5 years technical experience, or high school diploma and equivalent experience in project/architectural-engineering/technical.
  • All successful applicants will be required to pass the Project Management Institute PMP certification within one year of their hire date.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in one or more of the following: industrial construction projects, project management, project controls, fossil plant operations, labor negotiations or related experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Must have the ability to lead and function in multi-discipline teams.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
  • Prior leadership experience (5+ years minimum)
  • Prior experience managing pipeline contractors (5+ years minimum)
  • Understanding of labor laws and practices
  • Certified Project Management Professional (PMP)-PMI Upon Hire
  • LEAN Green Belt+ Certification
