JOB OVERVIEW 
Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of  Senior Manager Impact Assessments, Environmental Health & Safety.

Reporting to the Director Environmental Health & Safety, this position is responsible for  managing staff engaged in implementing all aspects of the environmental managed systems and programs, and for delivery of technical and consultative support and services related to OPG sites, facilities and projects. The Senior Manager is accountable to represent OPG interests and objectives in all matters pertaining to the development, maintenance, Indigenous relations, stakeholder consultations, continual improvement, implementation and management of strategic environment programs and initiatives. The Senior Manager will work collaboratively and effectively with teams and appropriate stakeholders as necessary, in coordination with representatives across the corporation and with external consultants, agencies and bodies as needed to develop, implement and manage strategic environmental initiatives and programming.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Oversight of the IA process including review of sampling plans, schedule, budgets, and compliance with applicable Acts and Regulations, Authorizations and Permits. Review of deliverables to support federal Impact Assessment (IA).
  • Lead and coordinate the IA process for project developments, including consultation with Indigenous Nations and communities, government agencies and the public, negotiation and resolution of complex environmental issues, management  of consultants, and review of project inputs for quality and accuracy.
  • Provide strategic advice to Projects and Senior Management on IA process
  • Oversee the conduct of work or study to resolve specific problems or investigations, and technical and environmental recommendations. Ensure work is conducted in accordance with applicable legal requirements and corporate policies related to environmental management and approved procedures and work practices.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies suce as the Impact Assessment  Agency of Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, and other authorities in relation to regulations, permits and licences.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships wtih cross functional stakeholders within OPG. Participate in or chair meetings with internal/external stakeholder groups. Provide advice and guidance based upon specialized experience and knowledge. 
  • Represent OPG in approved internal and external forums advocating for OPG's business interests, influencing the external regulatory and standards environment, and monitoring industry trends and best practices.
  • Provide leadership in all aspects of environmental management  for the business, including contractor management . Develop and deliver environmental work programs and comprehensive services to optimize business performance. Identify opportunities for improvement and follow through to manage the issues and risks. Provide technical and functional guidance to client groups in environmental issues. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 year university degree in engineering or science.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience  
  • Well-developed experience engaging with Indigenous Nations and communities, the public and regulators.
  • Skillful and practiced writer of EA and other public documents. Ability to distill complex ideas into a simple, concise narrative. 
  • Proven experience effectively leading, coaching, working collaboratively, influencing and motivating direct reports in a team environment. 
  • People oriented with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building, shaping, and maintaining productive relationships and partnerships externally and internally with a wide variety of stakeholders and multi-disciplinary team of experts. Requires a highly collaborative and effective team player.
