The opportunity
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance & Accounting, the Supervisor, Finance & Accounting will lead a team through all components of the Corporate financial reporting process. The role will oversee the external audit engagement and the delivery of audited financial statements, compliance with tax, regulatory, government and legal requirements with appropriate and prudent risk management practices; policies and procedures in support of complex accounting topics. This role provides assurance to stakeholders, Executive Leadership Team, Audit Committee and Board of Director members, market participants and governments in receiving complete and accurate information for decisions making.
What you'll do
Be accountable, manage, and responsible for:
- Supervise up to 5 staff through planning, organizing, assigning, managing responsibilities, providing advice and direction and ensuring quality, accuracy and timeliness of tasks;

Oversee the preparation and coordination of the IESO Corporate financial statements with accompanying notes for external contacts, government, financial analysis and management reports to the Executive Leadership Team;

Provide technical expertise leadership and guidance to personnel involved in and/or participating in the interpretation, administration, or application of finance and accounting services. Maintain expert knowledge of finance and accounting activities for purposes of interpreting and applying your expertise in recommendations to management;

Negotiate, influence and collaborate with other IESO groups and external parties to reach a common understanding and agreement on important financial issues and changes to operations;

Assist in communicating complex finance and accounting matters with external stakeholders including the Ontario Energy Board, Ontario Auditor General, Canada Revenue Agency, external lawyers, external auditors, external tax advisors, external actuaries, and IESO market participants;

Manage the development of complex financial analysis including financial modelling, dispute resolution, estimates for use in public dissemination, and taxation analysis;

Act as a project leader on assigned projects related to business unit financial system replacements;

Establish and update finance policies and procedures that are utilized and necessary for a full finance function;

Review and approve the issuance of all market participant invoice payments and statements of activity, of approximately $1.5 billion, for the real time market on a monthly basis;

Review and approve the posting of all transaction details to the general ledger including reconciliation of sub-ledgers and general ledger accounts;

Contribute to the development of training packages and documentation relating to the maintenance of records, work methods, technology, techniques, and the policies, practices, and procedures;

Perform other duties as may be required and participate on special projects.
What you need to succeed

4 year Undergraduate degree in business, accounting, finance or economics

A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation

Minimum 8 years of business experience including a) leading financial statement preparation and reporting, b) expert accounting and Public Sector Accounting Standards knowledge, and c) leading audits and managing external independent auditors

Requires supervisory experience to exercise full managerial accountabilities including human resource management in the areas of employee engagement and development, succession planning, performance management, salary recommendations, coaching and mentoring

Demonstrated leadership skills and an ability to influence and motivate others to work collaboratively as team members

Rigorous analytical and organizational skills; able to use trouble shooting techniques to solve solutions or devise new courses of action within the intent of existing programs, legislation or professional standards

Experience in the development and application of financial policies

Requires significant computer-based experience in the development of financial accounting and reporting-systems, their operation and maintenance

Knowledge and understanding of the design of the IESO-administered markets is preferred

A broad understanding of the electricity industry in general

Experience leading projects that implemented accounting systems and tools is recommended
