Description
SUMMARY
The Lineman is responsible for service construction, service metering, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing the electric systems, and assisting in other phases of work across the organization.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the efficient and effective response and repair of system-related issues and electric service to customers.
- Understand different types of meters and the service voltage required for each.
- Maintain a meter log, consisting of meter number and location installed with pole or pad number serving.
- Perform maintenance work on the electric system.
- Install, repair, and maintain the EPB lighting system.
- Assemble, install, remove, and transfer line and riser hardware and electrical equipment such as transformers, switches, meters, metering devices, etc. Ensure minimal connector failures by using proper materials, tools, and procedures.
- Efficiently and effectively connect electric and communication services.
- Know and follow the appropriate written safety rules and procedures and adhere to them.
- Provide accurate and prompt communication of actions taken so that proper records can be maintained.
- Communicate with customers and represent EPB well in both spoken words and actions.
- Make good decisions with little help from others (most of the work performed is performed independently.)
- Work during system emergencies and scheduled activities to prevent schedule delays or customer inconveniences a minimum of seventy (70%) of the time.
- Responsible for working a minimum of 16 hours consecutive during emergencies. This includes all call in and/or scheduled overtime.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- A Journeyman Lineman and have successfully completed all required training
- Experience working directly with customers to resolve equipment and circuit issues.
- Internal applicants must have a "Meets Expectations" or higher overall rating on the most recent performance appraisal and have no disciplinary action for the previous six months.
CERTIFICATION(S) and/or OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Possess a valid CDL Class A with DOT Health Card and be able to drive unrestricted on EPB's system. Driving a vehicle of weight greater than 26,000 GVW is required for transformer change-outs, which may occur at any time during the shift.
- Excellent verbal communication, customer service, teamwork, and PC Skills.
- Have practical knowledge of electronics, electricity or related disciplines.
- Ability to use various types of test equipment and computer terminal or PC.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general telecommunication information, technical procedures, and/or company practices.
- Ability to work in inclement weather.
- Ability to successfully perform pole-top and aerial device rescue techniques/procedures from both a pole position and from an aerial device used in daily work operations.
