The Senior Financial Analyst will conduct comprehensive financial and planning analyses, encompassing budgeting, financial planning, taxation, and consolidations. They will prepare variance analyses for monthly and quarterly reports and assist in developing Sempra's current year outlook and plan, and handle various ad hoc tasks as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyzes Sempra's one-year, five-year and 10-year financial plans.
- Assists business units with development of their outlooks and plans.
- Applies financial knowledge to review for sound presentation of numbers and reasonableness.
- Develops and maintains schedules to track actual and forecasted earnings, as well as the status of key issues.
- Ensures accurate consolidation within the Strategic Financial Planning system.
- Assists in creating presentations that effectively communicate financial plan results and outlooks to senior management.
- Prepares various reports, including the "Earnings Flash" report and variance analysis.
- Compiles and prepares quarterly Board reports.
- Develops an advanced understanding of key issues through research and ensures effective communication within the department.
- Anticipates and responds to requests from senior management for financial research pertaining to short term planning, as well as issues of interest to the Board.
- Supports the department's various functions in both routine and non-routine activities, including economic analysis of new projects. Prepares analytical and data-supported presentations for senior management.
- Prepares presentation materials to support requests from Investor Relations, Treasury, or the Board.
- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications
Education
- Must have a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, business administration or related field.
- CPA, CMA, MBA and/or other professional certifications/advanced degrees is preferred.
Experience
- 5+ years of previous experience and/or equivalent training is required.
- Experience with a Fortune 500 Company with multiple business units is preferred.
- Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
- We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong computer/presentation skills are required.
- Good knowledge of key financial evaluation concepts is required.
The following skills and abilities are preferred:
- Advanced skills with Excel and financial modeling.
- Experience with Oracle Cloud Planning or Oracle Hyperion Financial Management highly desired.
- Experience with analyzing and developing financial statements.
- Advanced understanding of accounting & finance including consolidation, elimination & ownership structures.
- Ability and drive to advance an issue or problem from identification through resolution.
- Strong project management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a diverse audience.
- Ability to train and coach less experienced team members.
- Flexibility to perform a variety of duties and serve as back up of other functions, as needed.
- Comfortable in making presentations about work product and adjusting style & content to the audience for maximum effectiveness.
- Gains confidence of key personnel through value-added work product.
- Works on problems complex in scope where analysis of situation requires in-depth evaluation of multiple factors.
