POSITION PURPOSE
Madison Gas and Electric Company (MGE) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced, team-oriented Engineer II Gas Engineering!
The Engineer II Gas Engineering will provide technical knowledge and project coordination to complete projects for our Gas Engineering department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, organizes, and engineers large- and small-scale natural gas engineering projects independently.
- Works with Gas Operations staff to successfully bring projects to completion while satisfying customers.
- Provides project management over third-party engineering firms to independently plan and design gas distribution mains, services, regulator stations, and appurtenances to serve new and existing customers.
- Possesses good knowledge of road construction plans to determine conflicts with gas facilities and designs around municipal facilities. Works with engineers, contractors, and developers to resolve conflicts with natural gas facilities and maintain service to existing customers.
- Leads or assists with Gas Engineering planning for new plats, gas forecasting, commercial customers, and short- and long-term system improvements.
- Works with others to develop, implement, and monitor compliance with procedures and permitting necessary to keep the Company in compliance with environmental, state, and federal codes.
- Performs analysis of existing conditions and develops traffic control plans that meet local, state, and federal requirements.
- Works with state, county, and local municipalities to meet or exceed all archeological, stormwater runoff, or other environmental regulations.
- Performs data analysis and utilizes trends to engineer solutions for Gas Engineering regarding corrosion, pressure, and risk management.
- Training of new Gas Engineering resources.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent.
- A minimum of two years of experience in natural gas project design, planning, and control or similar experience (internship/co-op experience may be included as relevant engineering experience).
- Able to become a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Wisconsin within five years.
Knowledge and Skills
- Able to review and understand construction drawings.
- Able to learn technical functions related to all phases of gas distribution design and construction.
- Knowledge of computerized techniques to design and maintain natural gas systems.
- Experience with CAD and GIS software preferred.
- Experience with GPS and survey equipment preferred.
- National Association of Corrosion Engineers certification preferred.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience with renewable natural gas (RNG) and/or liquified natural gas (LNG) preferred.
- Experience developing business intelligence tools preferred.
- Experience with Synergi (or similar tool) for gas system modeling.
- Familiar with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Working knowledge of a variety of database and file structures; programming languages; and productivity, analysis, or reporting tools (e.g., SQL, Microsoft Office, Power BI, Python, R, etc.) preferred.
