Engineer III / Senior Engineer - PMC Electrical Engineering (Carolina/Midwest) - Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as Electrical Nuclear Eng III or Lead Electrical Engineer
Summary
This job posting is at the Engineer III or Senior level of the engineering classification hierarchy. You will provide engineering support for the PMC (project Management and Construction) group in the electrical engineering discipline to implement new generation projects. The Electrical Engineer provides oversight of contract engineering resources for all phases of Duke Energy major projects (development, design, execution, commissioning, and turnover to operations). Projects include combined cycle, simple cycle, combined heat and power, liquefied natural gas, hydrogen conversions, CO2 sequestration, solar, battery and future wind.
Engineer III is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied.
Senior Engineer is the career/senior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of specialization, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions and take actions to resolve. Senior Engineer represents a level at which career may stabilize for many years.
Responsibilities
The Engineer works as a member of the project team to support all phases of major projects, from initial project scoping and development to final project close-out. These responsibilities include:
- Support development phase of major project scope and EPC bid package.
- Support development with Transmission for interconnection design and ensure project contract documentation aligns with interconnection scope.
- Support cost estimate, schedule, risk analysis, bid evaluation and contract development.
- Provide engineering oversight to ensure compliance with project requirements, contract, and design criteria.
- Participate in design reviews, drawing reviews, construction support, resolution of technical RFIs, commissioning support and project warranty support.
- On-site engineering support for construction and commissioning of projects.
- Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
- Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
- Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
- Travel - 50%
Basic / Required Qualifications
Engineer III
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
- Minimum of 4 years engineering experience.
Senior Engineer
- Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
Desired Qualifications
- Interpretation and compliance with all applicable NERC (PRC-006, PRC-012, PRC-023, PRC-025, PRC-027, CIP-002, and CIP-10) and FRCC regulations
- Understanding of basic principles of project management
- Understanding of the NEC
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD software
- Experience in the utility industry
- Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam and desire to complete PE license.
Specific Requirements
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, clothing, earplugs, fall protection, etc.) as needed
